Cardaci Scores Career-High, Eagles Fall to Towson

BALTIMORE- Kyle Cardaci led all scorers for the Coppin State men's basketball team as the Eagles fell to Towson 89-75, Saturday afternoon inside the PEC Arena.
The Eagles move to 1-13 while Towson improves to 7-4 and now lead the all-time series 9-4.
 
Cardaci scored 22 points shooting 7-14 from the three-point range. Tyree Corbett was second in scoring with 16 and led in rebounds (8). Mike Hood and Nendah Tarke scored 15 points each and Tarke led in assists (5). Reggie James had two steals on the night. Greg Spurlock tallied five points.
 
The first half was evenly matched till the Tigers went on a 9-0 scoring run with 10:30 left to play. Up six, Cardaci hit a three to cut into the Tigers lead (27-21) with 7:28 left in the game. Towson then went up ten with 5:22 remaining. A three from Mike Hood kept the Eagles fighting with 3:57 left but Towson extended their lead going into the half up seven (38-31).
 
Justin Steers scored a pair of free-throws to start the second half to cut into the Tigers lead. Then Greg Spurlock hit a big three with 17:24 left in the game to bring the Eagles within five, followed by another three from Cardaci to cut the lead to four. Nicolas Timberlake hit a three for Towson to give them another 10-point advantage with 15:28 left in the game. The Tigers then shifted gears that Coppin could not stop and was down 18, (60-58) after a three from Jason Gibson who led the Tigers in scoring with 24 points. The Eagles got within 13 after a made three from Tarke with 3:44 left in the game. Cardaci brought the Eagles back within ten with 1:20 left to play, but a final three from Gibson sealed the deal for Towson.
 
Coppin is back in action on Tuesday, December 14 taking on another CAA opponent Drexel at 8 p.m. inside the Sam Cozen Court.
