BALTIMORE – Coppin State women's basketball team welcome William & Mary to the PEC Arena for its home opener tomorrow, November 11. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm. All home games are streamed.

Opening Tip
The Eagles and Tribe are 2-2 in the All-Time Series. The two squads last played each other on December 17, 1995 where the Eagles came out on top, 65-57. The first meeting between the two teams was in 1986.
 
Last Time Out
Coppin State women's basketball team opened the season with a 73-70 victory over La Salle Tuesday night inside the Tom Gola Arena.
 
Jaia Alexander led all players with a game-high 30 points followed by Aliyah Lawson with 21 points. Freshman Colleen Bucknor had eight points, eight rebounds and two assists. Lawson also had six rebounds and three assists. Freshman Mossi Staples led the team with three steals. Nailah Delinois had one block and one steal.
 
Preseason Poll
Redshirt juniors Aliyah Lawson and Jalynda Salley were named to the Preseason All-MEAC Teams. Lawson received First Team accolades while Salley earned Second Team accolades while the Eagles were picked to finish sixth in the Preseason Poll.
 
Coppin Contributors
A Second Team All-MEAC selection last season, Lawson finished second in the conference with 14.5 points per game while ranking third with 38 3-point field goals.  A native of Whitby, Ontario, Canada, Lawson also finished with 4.5 rebounds per game to go with 24 assists and 17 steals. Lawson received three MEAC Player of the Week awards, scored at least 20 points in four games and reached double figures in 12 games.
 
Lawson scored a career-high 27 points with five 3-pointers to go with a career-high 12 rebounds for her first-ever double-double against Morgan State. In her two seasons at Coppin, Lawson ranks sixth in CSU history in 3-point field goals (84) and free throw percentage (72.4%).
 
Salley received Third Team All-MEAC and All-Defensive Team honors last season after averaging 9.3 points per game while ranking fourth in the MEAC in rebounds (8.8) and seventh in blocks (18).  A native of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Salley led the conference with 4.1 offensive rebounds per game which ranked 18th nationally.  In MEAC games, Salley averaged 10.0 points and 9.6 rebounds with a pair of double doubles.
 
In her three seasons with the Eagles, Salley has recorded 82 blocked shots which ranks eighth in CSU history.
 
Eagle Returners
Returning from last season is Alexandria Hamilton, Aliyah Lawson, Hope Evans, Nailah Delinois, and Jalynda Salley.
 
New to the Nest
The Eagles welcomed in 10 student-athletes this season including: Mossi Staples, Nadjy Tyler, Jewel Watkins, Jaia Alexander, Colleen Bucknor, Khya Jenkins and Cortney Gardner.

Scouting the Tribe
The Tribe was picked eighth in the preseason standings by vote of the league coaches. Last season, W&M was picked eighth in the preseason before opting out due to COVID for the remainder of the 2020-21 season on Feb. 12 after completing 13 games (6-7, 3-5 CAA).
 William & Mary ranked second in the CAA in scoring defense (61.3 ppg), while leading the conference in three-point field goal percentage defense (23.1%). The Tribe returns two starters from last season, while they added six newcomers.
This is our fifth straight year on the road and the Tribe is 2-2 the last four road openers

The Eagles are back in action Sunday, November 14 at Rhode Island. Jump ball is scheduled for noon inside the Ryan Center.
