How it Happened
- Coppin State's Justin Oakley led off the game with a single up the middle but was thrown out trying to steal second base with Justin Banks at the plate with one out.
- The Citadel opened its half of the first with a leadoff triple, but Aaron Rea shook it off to retire the next batter before an RBI groundout scored a run.
- Rea struck out a Bulldog in the second before the Eagles got a single from Matt Day in the third, but he was also thrown out trying to steal.
- A walk and a hit allowed The Citadel to tack on another in the third, before Justin Banks got Coppin on the board in the fourth with an RBI double to left center. Marcos Castillo scored all the way from first on the play after drawing a walk just prior.
- Rea struck out the side in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the fifth, keeping it a 2-1 deficit.
- CSU threatened to tie the score in the sixth as Matt Day led off the frame with a single before reaching third on a sacrifice bunt by Cole Gerula and an error. Banks drew a two-out walk but a lineout ended the inning.
- Bradley Tuttle retired the first four batters he faced with a pair of strikeouts, but the Citadel got to him for one run in the seventh, and two more in the eighth with one unearned.
- The Eagles threatened in the ninth as Castillo and Toran Smith drew walks, and Corey Treyes was hit by a pitch but came up empty.
