Norfolk State Pulls Away from Men’s Hoops

BALTIMORE – Andrew Robinson scored a team-high 18 points with five 3-pointers as a shorthanded Coppin State men's basketball team dropped a MEAC matchup to Norfolk State, 82-59 on Monday night at PEC Arena.
 
Inside the Numbers

• Andrew Robinson made five 3-pointers for the second-straight game and finished with 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting.  He also dished out a season-high three assists.
• Dejuan Clayton added 12 points and four assists while Koby Thomas tallied ten points with seven rebounds.
• Brendan Medley-Bacon finished with seven points, six rebounds and a pair of blocks and assists as the Eagles made just 38.3% of their shots compared to 47.5% for Norfolk State.
• The Spartans outrebounded CSU, 42-28 and got 21 points from Jermaine Bishop.

How it Happened

• Brendan Medley-Bacon scored four of Coppin's first five points to give the Eagles an early 5-4 lead.
• A bucket by Norfolk gave the Spartans back the lead but Reggie James then drove baseline for a highlight-reel slam, putting CSU back on top, 7-6 at the 14:45 mark.
• That was the final lead for the Eagles as Norfolk State scored seven-straight and took a 39-29 lead into the half.
• Norfolk State hit a jumper to start the second half but CSU cut the deficit in half as Andrew Robinson hit back-to-back 3-pointers to make it a 41-35 score with 17:59 left in regulation.
• The Spartans began to pull away with a 10-1 run over the next 1:30 and led by as many as 25 points to seal the victory.
