EL PASO, Texas – Coppin State's volleyball team won the first set, 25-23, but fell to Texas A&M Corpus Christi in four sets at the Borderland Invitational, hosted by UTEP on Saturday afternoon.

First Set
- Coppin scored the first two points of the match on a kill by Miajavon Coleman and a Corpus Christi error.
- The Islanders battled back to within a single point at 9-8 but the Eagles scored three-straight with a pair of kills by Coleman sandwiching another by Jordan Celestine to make it a 12-8 score.
- The teams traded service errors and Coppin scored another three-straight with kills by Coleman and Paola Caten to go up 18-10.
- Corpus Christi battled back late and cut the score to 24-23 but Coppin finished it off with a block by Coleman and Celestine.
Second Set
- Coppin once again got out to an early 2-0 lead but A&M scored three-straight to take their first lead of the match.
- The Eagles stayed in it to regain a two-point lead at 9-7, but a 6-1 Islanders run gave them a 13-10 advantage and forced a timeout.
- It was all A&M from there as they closed the frame on a 12-3 run to win, 25-13.
Third Set
- Corpus Christi led from start to finish, scoring the first four points of the frame and Coppin got no closer than three points the rest of the way.
- Coppin hit just .100 for the set compared to a match-high .419 for the Islanders.
Fourth Set
- The teams traded the first four points of the final set before the Islanders scored the next three points to take a 5-2 lead.
- Coppin pulled within two points three times over the next few rallies but a 5-1 run saw A&M begin to pull away.
Inside the Numbers
- Miajavon Coleman once again led all players with 13 kills while hitting .205 for the match. She also added seven digs and a team-high two blocks.
- Jordan Celestine had her best match of the young season with eight kills and hit .294. Christa Johnson added five more kills while Lauryn Harrell and Paola Caten tallied four apiece.
- Brianna Lang assisted on 25 of the team's 36 kills as the Eagles hit .193 compared to .268 for the Islanders. She also added seven digs, as did Salma Gonzalez.
- Ashley Roman was credited with a team-high ten digs.
- Coppin struggled on both sides of the service game, committing 14 service errors and allowing 13 aces by the Islanders.
