PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Coppin State's volleyball team fell in three sets to Brown University (25-14, 25-17, 25-20) in the opening night of the 15
th Annual Providence Friar Classic Friday night at Alumni Hall.

First Set
- Coppin held early leads with a kill by Christa Johnson and a Brown attack error. The Bears took a 3-2 lead before Sydney Hicks tied it with a kill, but Brown then scored six-straight points to go up by six.
- Kills by Lauryn Harrell and Jordan Celestine cut the deficit to five points, but Coppin would get no closer the remainder of the set which Brown took, 25-14.
Second Set
- The Eagles got out to an early 5-2 lead as Lauryn Harrell punched a pair of kills in the early portion of the set.
- Brown rallied to tie the score at six and then went on a 9-1 run to go up 16-8 and they maintained that lead through the end of the frame, 25-17.
Third Set
- Brown got a pair of aces to start the final set but Miajavon Coleman led an Eagles rally with a pair of kills and a block to put Coppin up, 8-6.
- The Bears responded to tie the score at ten and retook the lead at 12-11 following an ace.
- CSU did not go down quietly as it tied the score once again at 14 but three-straight Brown points gave the Bears the momentum and the Eagles got no closer.
Inside the Numbers
- Miajavon Coleman led the Eagles attack with nine kills and was closely followed by Sydney Hicks who recorded eight with just two errors on 20 swings for a .300 hitting percentage.
- Defensively, Coppin got a match-high five blocks from Lauryn Harrell and four more from Christa Johnson. Ashley Roman also was credited with a match-high 12 digs.
- Coppin hit just .065 for the match while Brown hit .227.
Up Next: Coppin returns to the court tomorrow in the second day of the Providence Friar Invitational. The Eagles play the host Friars at 1:30 followed immediately after by a clash with Fairleigh Dickinson.
