EL PASO, Texas – Despite a match-high 13 kills along with 11 digs from
Miajavon Coleman, the Coppin State volleyball team fell in three sets to UTEP (25-21, 25-17, 25-19) on Friday afternoon at Memorial Gym in the first day of the Borderland Invitational.

First Set
- UTEP got out to a 3-0 lead before Miajavon Coleman recorded her first kill of the match to put Coppin on the board.
- An Eagles service error kept it a three-point Miners' advantage, but Coppin battled back to tie the score at eight and at 12 before taking its first lead on another kill by Coleman.
- UTEP called a timeout behind, 13-12 and ran off five-straight points and never looked back to take the set, 25-21.
- Coleman recorded six kills during the frame while Ashley Roman earned five digs.
Second Set
- Miajavon Coleman recorded a pair of kills as the match was all square early one but the Miners went on a 5-0 run to take a 7-2 lead.
- UTEP extended the lead to 12-5 before the Eagles called their second timeout of the frame but the hosts kept the momentum to take the frame, 25-17.
- Coleman finished with another five kills in the second while Brianna Lang and Paola Caten added a couple each.
- The Miners hit .429 during the set.
Third Set
- UTEP led from start to finish in the final set, leading by as many as 11 at 20-9.
- Coppin continued to fight to the finish, however, and pulled to within 24-19 as Jordan Celestine recorded a couple kills from her middle hitting position.
- CSU was held to a -.033 hitting percentage and was credited with five service errors in the decider.
