PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Coppin State's
Tatiana Ogundeko finished second overall in a personal-record 19:09 at the Eastern Shore XC Invite on Saturday morning. Complete results were not made available until Sunday morning.
A senior from Waldorf, Md., Ogundeko continued her seasonal success and edged out Navy's Hannah Werren for second place out of 63 runners. Ogundeko's time shattered her old personal record, set at the same course on September 23, 2017, by 30 seconds.
"Eastern Shore's course was always tough for me, but I kept the concept from my last race, to compete like it's my last," said Ogundeko. "I ran my first mile strong and tried to maintain my pace throughout the last two miles."
"It's her senior year and she is determined to get the most out of it," said head coach
Carl Hicks of Ogundeko's performance so far this season. It starts with her competing well in cross country and it will help her transition even better to the track season."
As a team, the Eagles women's cross country team finished sixth of eight schools, beating out MEAC rival Delaware State, as well as University of District of Columbia.
Janee Quailes finished 36
th overall in 22:59, ahead of
Tre'J Johnson (24:47.30),
Kimani Alphonse (25:53.30) and
Destinee McLeod (26:05).
Coppin's men finished ninth as a team and were led by
Randy Serville (32:26) and
Ivan Wiggins (32:39).
Jervonne Agard and
Eryk Goode ran together and finished in 34:14.40 and 34:19.70, respectively.
Also competing for the Eagles was
Nku Henry, who finished the 8K in 37:09.10.
CSU returns to action on Friday, September 27 for the DSU Pre-Conference Run Invitational in Smyrna, Del.
