NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's
Christa Johnson has been named the MEAC Volleyball Co-Defensive Specialist of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday afternoon. This is the first MEAC weekly honor of Johnson's career and she shares the award with Shaylynn Hall of North Carolina A&T.
A senior from Crestview, Fla., Johnson led the Eagles with 11 blocks as Coppin State went 1-2 at the 15
th Annual Providence Friar Classic over the weekend. Johnson was also credited with nine kills and three digs over the weekend.
Johnson recorded four blocks each in losses to Brown and the host Friars before recording three more in the Eagles sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson. She also recorded three kills and one dig in each match.
For the season, Johnson is second on the team with 16 blocks while also recording 33 kills with a .168 hitting percentage. In her three-plus seasons at Coppin, Johnson has recorded 157 total blocks, good for seventh in school-history.
