Inside the Numbers
How It Happened
  • UMBC took a 3-0 lead after breaking through in the third inning after Carter Harbut tossed two scoreless innings to start the game.
  • Coppin State fought back to within one with a pair of runs in the fourth.  Justin Banks started the rally with a double and after Nazier McIlwain drew a walk, Marcos Castillo singled through the right side to load the bases.  Drew Thomas was then hit by a pitch and Derek Lohr drew a walk to make it a 3-2 game.
  • Jonathan Rice relieved Harbut to start the fourth and gave up four runs before Jahmon Taylor relieved him and got the final out of the inning.
  • Both teams went scoreless in the fifth to keep it a 6-2 score and the Eagles scored a pair in the sixth. A single by Castillo and a double by Isaiah Wilson put a pair on and Thomas drove both in with a single up the middle. CSU threatened for more after Lohr singled and Banks drew a walk to load the bases but came up empty.
  • Once again, the Retrievers answered with a run in the bottom half to take an 8-4 lead.
  • In the top of the ninth, CSU threatened and got the tying run to the plate but a groundout with the bases loaded ended the game.
