Baseball Wraps Up MEAC Play with Loss at Delaware State

DOVER, Del. – Coppin State's baseball team dropped Saturday's game at Delaware State, 6-2, wrapping up conference play for the season heading into the MEAC Tournament in Daytona Beach on May 15-18.

Inside the Numbers
  • Five different Coppin players had base hits on the day but three errors cost the Eagles.
  • Devin Rivera Ozuna took the loss, allowing four earned runs in 5.0 innings.  Branden Redfern gave up one run over the final three innings.
 
How It Happened
  • Nazier McIlwain gave Coppin State the early lead in the first with a two-run home run to center field, scoring Justin Banks. Banks was hit a pitch just two batters before.
  • Starting Eagles pitcher Devin Rivera Ozuna faced the minimum through two innings which included inducing 1 -6-3 double play to end the second.
  • Delaware State left two runners on in the third but broke through to tie the score in the fourth. The Hornets got another three runs in the fifth and got another in the seventh to take a 6-2 lead.
