Softball Swept at George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – Coppin State's softball team was swept in a doubleheader at George Mason on Thursday afternoon.  The Eagles fell, 3-1 in the opener before going down, 6-0 in the nightcap.
 
The Basics

• Final Score (Game 1): Coppin State 1, George Mason 3
• Final Score (Game 2): Coppin State 0, George Mason 6

How it Happened (Game 1)

• George Mason got out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first but pitcher Madison Didion held the Patriots in check over the next four innings.
• Coppin cut the lead in half as Kylie Flagler drew a walk with the bases loaded in the fifth, scoring Melanie Aguilera. Aguilera reached with a one-out single and got to third after a pair of walks issued to Desiree Carrizosa and Patricia Soria.
• GMU extended the lead back to two runs with a run in the sixth and the Eagles only got a single from Carrizosa in the seventh to fall in the opener.

Inside the Numbers (Game 1)

• Desiree Carrizosa went 2-for-2 with a walk while Soraya Valdez-Frick had both a hit and a walk.
• Madison Didion was charged with just two earned runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings.

How it Happened (Game 2)

• All of the runs came in the first two innings as George Mason scored three runs in both innings.

Inside the Numbers (Game 2)

• Coppin was only able to muster two base hits, one each by Cayla Brown and Megan Narvaez.  Nicole Ullman and Hatika James also reached base safely by drawing walks.
• Brissa Alvarado gave up five earned runs on nine hits over 6.0 innings of work in the loss.

Up Next 

• Coppin continues its trip to face Norfolk State for a three-game MEAC series on April 12-13.  A 3 pm doubleheader will now be played on Friday, followed by a 1 pm single game on Saturday.
