How It Happened
- The Eagles scored eight runs in the first three innings while not allowing one to take a 8-0 lead. Coppin's first three runs came in the second inning as Drew Thomas put CSU on the board with a bunt single to score Erik Crossman which also loaded the bases with no outs. After back-to-back fielder's choices which forced out the runner at home, Derek Lohr doubled to left field, scoring Thomas and Cole Gerula.
- Crossman and Corey Treyes both homered in the third inning, accounting for all five of Coppin's runs in the inning. Justin Banks led off the frame with a single before Crossman's shot to left field. Treyes' roundtripper was of the three-run variety, making it an 8-0 ballgame.
- Delaware State used a two-out rally to score two in the third and added two more in the sixth to cut the deficit to 8-4.
- Coppin got two of the runs back in the top of the seventh on a two-run single by Conner Walker.
- Lucas Richards relieved Aaron Rea to start the seventh and gave up a leadoff home run, but retired the next two batters. After an error and a walk, Branden Redfern retired the final batter of the frame.
- Redfern also pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning before Treyes faced the minimum in the ninth to get the win.
Up Next: Coppin returns to action on Tuesday, March 26 when it travels to Mount St. Mary's for a 3:30 pm start.
