Men’s Hoops Falls at MEAC-Leading Norfolk State

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's men's basketball team shot just 22.0% from the field in a 72-38 loss at MEAC-leading Norfolk State on Saturday night at Joseph Echols Memorial Hall.

How It Happened
 
First Half

• Coppin got out to a 2-0 lead with a transition layup by Taqwain Drummond in the opening minute but Norfolk scored the next six before Lamar Morgan buried a three, cutting the deficit to 6-5 at the 18:19 mark.
• The Spartans went on a 9-0 run, holding the Eagles scoreless for over seven minutes before Brendan Medley-Bacon hit his first career three-pointer with 11:11 to go.
• Norfolk closed the half on a 12-4 run with Coppin's only buckets coming from Nigel Marshall and Chad Andrews-Fulton.
• CSU made just 5-of-27 (18.5%) field goals in the first half and trailed, 27-12.

Second Half

• Coppin shot 25% in the second half as Norfolk quickly extended its advantage to 20 and as many as 36 points in the final period.

Inside the Numbers

• Dejuan Clayton led Coppin with nine points while Chad Andrews-Fulton and Kent Auslander added seven points each.  Andrews-Fulton grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
• Nic Thomas led three Spartans in double figures with 16 points.
