Andrews-Fulton Leads Men’s Hoops To Sweep of Morgan State in Regular Season Finale

BALTIMORE – Chad Andrews-Fulton scored 24 points and pulled down 18 rebounds, both career-highs, to go with five assists, to lead the Coppin State men's basketball team to an 83-69 victory at archrival Morgan State on Thursday night at Hill Field House.  It is the first time since the 2014-15 season that the Eagles swept the season series with their crosstown rival.

How it Happened
First Half
  • Coppin got out to an early lead as Chad Andrews-Fulton scored inside for the game's opening basket just seconds in. 
  • Followng a free throw by Morgan State with 15:51 left, the Eagles went on a 14-4 run over the next 5:30 to take a 22-10 lead.  Coppin made four 3-pointers during the stretch, two of which came from Lamar Morgan.
  • The Bears scored the next five points and cut the deficit to as little as 27-22 with 5:20 to go but the Eagles closed the half on a 12-4 run to go into the half leading, 39-26.  Andrews-Fulton had half of Coppin's 12 points during the run and finished the half with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Second Half
  • Taqwain Drummond scored the first five points of the period to extend CSU's lead to 44-26 at the 19:06 mark but Morgan did not go away and cut the deficit to just 55-48 with just under ten minutes to go.
  • Cedric Council responded with a three and Drummond hit another layup to get the lead back to double digits.
  • After a three by Morgan, Dejuan Clayton buried a three and the Bears answered with a pair of free throws to keep it a nine-point game at 62-53 with 7:54 remaining.
  • That was the last time that the lead was under double digits as Morgan hit a three to spark a 7-0 run with under five minutes to play.
  • Coppin extended the lead to as many as 83-63 on a layup by Ibn Williams with 1:49 on the clock.
Inside the Numbers
  • Chad Andrews-Fulton led all players with a career-high 24 points on 9-of-16 shooting while making a career-high three 3-pointers.  The senior from Philadelphia also pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds and finished one off his career-high with five assists.
  • The Eagles had four players reach double figures as Lamar Morgan added 14 points while Cedric Council and Dejuan Clayton recorded 13 points apiece.  Council also had eight rebounds while Clayton dished out five assists.
  • Morgan hit four 3-pointers and is now tied with Sidney Goodman ('95) for eighth on Coppin's all-time 3-point list with 162 in just 62 games.
  • Taqwain Drummond made all three of his field goals and both of his free throws to finish with nine points.
  • Freshmen Ibn Williams and Brendan Medley-Bacon chipped in with five points each while Medley-Bacon also was credited with six rebounds, two assists and three blocks.
  • Coppin outshot Morgan, 47.5% to 34.4% and outrebounded the Bears, 50-35.  CSU had 15 offensive rebounds which led to 22 second-chance points.
  • Isaiah Burke led Morgan with 21 points off the bench.
