Didion, Alvarado Pitch Well in Softball’s Losses to Delaware

NEWARK, Del. – Coppin State's softball team got good pitching from Madison Didion and Brissa Alvarado but were unable to get a win at Delaware on Sunday afternoon.  The Blue Hens won the opener, 1-0, before taking game two, 5-2.

How it Happened (Game 1)
  • Delaware scored the lone run of the game in the sixth inning after a one-out walk, stolen base and an RBI single.
  • Coppin's lone base runner came in the third inning as Cloe Ochoa drew a leadoff walk.
  • Madison Didion retired the first six batters she faced and had another point where she retired six-straight as well.
Inside the Numbers (Game 1)
  • Madison Didion allowed just one run on three hits while striking out four.

How it Happened (Game 2)
  • Coppin got out to an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by Cloe Ochoa in the first inning. Patricia Soria scored on the play after leading off the game with a single and got to third on a groundout and a passed ball.
  • Melanie Aguilera threw out two runners trying to steal in the bottom half of the first but Delaware managed to tie the score with a run in the second.
  • Ochoa put the Eagles back on top with an RBI single in the third, driving in Soria once again.
  • Brissa Alvarado threw a 1-2-3 third for CSU but two errors led to the Blue Hens tying the score in the fourth.
  • Alvarado got another 1-2-3 inning in the fifth but UD put three across the plate in the sixth and the Eagles went down in order in the seventh.

Up Next
  • Coppin will travel for back-to-back local doubleheaders, starting with Towson at 1 pm on Tuesday, March 19.  The following afternoon, the Eagles face UMBC in a 2 pm doubleheader.
