Coppin State News & Notes
  • Despite its record, Coppin might very well possess the top 1-2 punch in the conference with Brooke Fields and Chance Graham.  The duo has combined for 33.5 points per game, good for 57.5% of the team's total points this season.
  • Brooke Fields leads the team with 17.4 points this season, but has increased that to 20.8 points in conference games which ranks second in the MEAC.  Fields is the reigning MEAC Player of the Week after averaging 20.0 points and 9.5 assists while making 17-of-18 free throws in those games.  This included setting a career-high and PEC Arena record with 11 assists against Delaware State.
  • Brooke Fields recently scored her 1,500th career point on January 19 at NC Central.  Fields played three seasons at Division II Roberts Wesleyan in Upstate New York and scored 1,226 points in three seasons.
  • Chance Graham is having another superb season, averaging a double-double 16.1 points and 12.0 rebounds.  Her rebounding numbers lead the MEAC and are 8th nationally.  Graham also ranks among the conference leaders with nearly two steals and 1.4 blocks per game.
  • Graham is rapidly climbing several of Coppin's all-time record charts.  She became the 15th Lady Eagles player to score 1,000th career points last game at Delaware State.  After the win over the Hornets, Graham now ranks second in school-history with 870 rebounds, just 38 shy of Rene' Doctor's school-record of 908.
  • Graham has been named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week five times this season and also earned Co-Player of the Week honors on December 18.
  • Jalynda Salley was just named the MEAC Rookie of the Week after her performance against Howard and Delaware State. Salley scored a season-high 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting to go with 10 rebounds against the Bison.
  • Kaiya Coleman has scored in double figures in four-straight games, averaging 11.8 points in those games.  Coleman has made 13-of-22 (59.1%) from three-point range during that stretch.

Scouting Norfolk State
  • Norfolk State put in its work early, outscoring Morgan State 36-11 in the first half, before weathering a second-half surge by the Lady Bears in Saturday's 64-49 win inside Hill Field House.
  • The win clinched a winning record in MEAC play for the Spartans, marking the third-consecutive season that NSU will finish conference play above .500. The Spartans had never before posted a winning record in three-straight MEAC seasons and have not strung together three or more winning conference seasons in a row since a run of seven-straight between 1990 and 1997.
  • This season, NSU ranks 17th in scoring defense (55.5), 19th in field goal percentage defense (35.5) and sixth in opponent 3-point percentage (25.6).
  • At the conference level, the Spartans rank first in scoring defense since the 2016-17 season, allowing 56.6 points per game in that span. During the same time period, Norfolk State tops all MEAC teams in field goal percentage defense (33.8), blocks per game (5.9) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (27.4).
  • La'Deja James leads the Spartans in scoring at 12.3 points, followed by Raven Russell at 11.4 points. Alexys Long (9.5), Kendrea Dawks (8.8) and Khadedra Coker (7.0) are just behind with Coker leading the team at 5.6 rebounds and the MEAC in blocked shots. Dana Echols averages over five assists per game as well.
