Brooke Fields and Jalynda Salley Earn MEAC POTW Awards

Fields Named MEAC Player of the Week; Salley Rookie of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's Brooke Fields has been named the MEAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week while Jalynda Salley took home MEAC Rookie of the Week honors, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.  This is the first weekly award that either player has received by the MEAC.
 
A senior from Owings Mills, Md., Fields averaged 20.0 points, 9.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals while making 17-of-18 (94.4%) free throws last week, leading the Eagles to a victory over Delaware State and a tough loss to Howard.
 
In the defeat against the Bison, Fields scored 21 points and dished out what was then a career-high with eight assists while committing just one turnover and swiping four steals.  Two nights later, Fields tallied 19 points while making 9-of-10 from the line.  Fields also dished out a career-high and Physical Education Complex record 11 assists.
 
For the season, Fields leads the Eagles with a career-high 17.4 points, 100 assists (3.8 per game) and 2.9 rebounds while making 45 3-pointers and tallying 1.5 steals per game.  Fields has also made 133-of-168 (79.2%) free throws. In conference play, Fields has been even more dynamic, ranking second in the conference with 20.8 points, third with 4.6 assists and second in free throw percentage (84.1%) despite making the most of any MEAC player (90-of-107).
 
In her four collegiate seasons, three of which came at Division II Roberts Wesleyan, Fields has accumulated 1,678 points in 116 games, good for a 14.5 point average.  Fields has made nearly 200 3-pointers, 449-583 (77.0%) free throws, grabbed 350 rebounds (3.0 per game), 334 assists (2.9 per game) and 144 steals.
 
A freshman center from Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Salley had a huge game against the Bison, making 10-of-15 shots for 22 points while also pulling town ten rebounds for her third double-double of the season.  Salley added six points, two rebounds and two assists in a victory over Delaware State.
 
In her first collegiate season, Salley has averaged 4.8 points while ranking second on the Eagles with 5.3 rebounds and 22 blocks.  Salley has reached double figures in scoring four times and has gone over ten rebounds six times.
