Women's Hoops Routs Delaware State, 85-59 on Senior Night

BALTIMORE - Chance Graham led four Coppin State players in double figures with 26 points and 12 rebounds and became the 15th CSU player to record 1,000 career points in an 85-59 MEAC victory over Delaware State Monday night at PEC Arena.

How It Happened
 
First Quarter
  • Kaiya Coleman put Coppin on the board with a three but the Hornets took a 7-3 lead with 8:09 remaining in the period.
  • The Eagles quickly tied it up and retook a 10-9 lead on a three by Chance Graham.
  • Graham's triple sparked a 19-3 CSU run which gave CSU a 26-12 advantage with 23 ticks remaining.  Graham scored nine of the Eagles' points during the run.
  • DSU sank two free throws to close out the period.
Second Quarter
  • The teams played virtually even in the period as Chance Graham had 11 points and seven rebounds at the half.  Brooke Fields tallied eight points and six assists in the first 20 minutes and Maraiyah Smith added nine.
  • CSU led 37-25 at the break.
Third Quarter
  • The Hornets got out to a hot start and opened the half on an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to 39-36 with 7:15 remaining.
  • Following a DSU timeout after their 3-pointer pulled it within three points, Maraiyah Smith and Kaiya Coleman answered with back-to-back three's and the Eagles closed the quarter on a 23-10 run to lead 62-46 after three quarters.
  • CSU made five 3-pointers in the final 7:15, three of which by Smith and two by Coleman.
Fourth Quarter
  • Brooke Fields opened the period with a three to extend the lead to 19, and the margin reached the 20 point plateau for the first time when Fields fed Chance Graham for a layup at the 3:32 mark.
  • The bucket gave Graham 1,000 career points and she was honored by the crowd as the Eagles called an immediate timeout.
Inside the Numbers
  • Needing 24 points to hit 1,000 for her career, Chance Graham recorded a game-high 26 points on 7-of-16 shooting with two 3-pointer's, 10-of-12 free throws and 12 rebounds. 
  • Graham now has 1,002 points in her career to rank 15th in school-history.  The junior forward now has 870 rebounds, passing Kiesha Brooks for second in CSU history and 38 away from Rene' Doctor's school-record of 908.
  • Brooke Fields added 19 points while dishing out a career-high 11 assists.  Fields also made 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Fields' 11 assists is a new PEC record by a Coppin player.
  • Maraiyah Smith made four 3-pointers and made all four of her free throws to score a career-high 18 points to go with four assists.
  • Kaiya Coleman also finished in double figures with ten points, including three 3-pointers.
  • Coppin outshot Delaware State, 49.0% to 32.8% and sunk 11-of-17 (58.3%) from distance.  CSU was credited with 22 assists on their 25 made baskets.
  • The Eagles' 85 points is a season-high
  • The Hornets got a team-high 20 points from Lanayjha Ashe.
