Christa Johnson Named MEAC Volleyball Co-Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – Coppin State's Christa Johnson has been named the MEAC Volleyball Co-Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.  This is the second weekly award of Johnson's career, both coming this season as she was named the Defensive Specialist of the Week on September 16.
 
A senior from Crestview, Fla., Johnson had a week to remember as she totaled 32 kills without committing an error, good for a .593 hitting percentage.  Johnson also led the Eagles with 13 total blocks in Coppin's three matches.
 
Opening the week with a five-set victory at UMBC, Johnson led all players with a career-high 14 kills on 24 swings for a .583 hitting percentage.  Johnson also led CSU with four blocks.
 
Despite Coppin's five-set defeats at the hands of North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central, Johnson recorded seven kills with six blocks against the Aggies on Friday night before going for 11 kills and three blocks against Central.  Johnson notched a .611 hitting percentage against NC Central which is a Coppin State record for a five-set match.
 
This season, Johnson currently ranks seventh in the MEAC with a .257 hitting percentage while recording 85 kills. In conference matches, Johnson is second in the league with a .411 hitting percentage with 28 kills while ranking eighth with 0.82 blocks per set.
 
For her career, Johnson has recorded 353 kills and her .226 career hitting percentage is the fourth-best in school-history. Johnson also has recorded 190 career blocks, good for third in CSU history.
