READING, Pa. – Coppin State's bowling team opened its 2019-20 season with a 14
th place finish at the Bud Whitman Invitational hosted by Chestnut Hill at Berks Lanes on Saturday-Sunday.
On Saturday, Coppin dropped Baker matches to Kutztown (815-760), Caldwell (998-845), Mount St. Mary's (1,021-903), Mount Aloysis (898-860) and Long Island University (972-793). The Eagles were ranks 13
th after the first day of competition.
Traditional matches were played on Sunday, and Coppin picked up an 876-790 victory over Felician University after falling by a single pin to Howard University, 813-812 to open the day. Following CSU's victory, Coppin fell to Chestnut Hill (951-884), Duquesne (1,032-740) and Adelphi (1,003-747).
Kaylah Castillo was the top individual for the Eagles after finishing 44
th overall with a 171.80 average. Castillo's top game was a 224 in Coppin's victory over Felician.
Nia Turner finished just below Castillo with a 156.80 average, good for 47
th place.
Mya Hamlett competed in four matches and came away with a 166.25 average to finish 57
th.
Jazzleen McRae was next for the Eagles with a 149.75 in four matches while
Raja Anderson tallied a 175.67 in three matches, including a 225 in a loss to Chestnut Hill.
Sydney Tyler and
Aushia McLean bowled in two matches each and recorded averages of 167.00 and 145.50, respectively.
Coppin returns to action on October 19-20 at the Mount St. Mary's Shootout held at Terrace Lanes in Frederick, Md.
