WASHINGTON, D.C. – Coppin State's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (23-25, 23-25, 15-25) decision to Alabama A&M on Friday afternoon at the Dig the District Invitational, hosted by Georgetown University at McDonough Arena.

How It Happened
First Set
- After Coppin took the first two points on kills by Brianna Lang and Asia Stennis, Alabama A&M scored the next five as Alana Cox recorded a pair of kills and a block.
- The Eagles tied it up at five but the Bulldogs controlled the scoreboard until CSU tied the score once again at 11 with kills by Lauryn Harrell and Miajavon Coleman.
- A&M then scored six-straight points to take a 17-11 lead but a 6-1 run by Coppin cut the deficit to 18-17, forcing a Bulldogs timeout.
- The Bulldogs scored three of the next four points but the Eagles did not go away and tied it up once again at 21.
- Back-to-back errors by CSU gave the Bulldogs and 23-21 lead and prompted a timeout. The teams then traded points before the Bulldogs took the set, 25-23, on a kill by Jaelin Gant.
- Coppin had 14 kills to A&M's nine, but 11 attack errors and four errors in the service game allowed the Bulldogs to take the frame.
Second Set
- Coppin controlled the set early on and held a 17-11 lead after a kill by Harrell.
- A 5-2 run by the Bulldogs cut the Eagles' cushion to just 19-16 and led to a CSU timeout.
- Following a kill by Lang, A&M scored three-straight to make it a one-point game before a service error made it 21-19 in favor of the Eagles.
- Coleman recorded a kill and following another Bulldogs service error, Coppin held a 23-21 lead but the Bulldogs scored the final four points of the frame to win, 25-23.
- The Eagles hit an impressive .306 but the Bulldogs hit .303 for the set and were helped out by seven errors in the service game by Coppin.
Third Set
- Coppin held a narrow lead early in the set but never took a multi-point advantage.
- With Alabama A&M holding a 6-4 lead, Coleman recorded a kill to the deficit before a 5-0 Bulldogs run made it an 11-5 score.
- The Eagles closed the gap to within one at 13-12 with the help of a 4-0 run where Stennis had a pair of aces.
- Three-straight Bulldogs points forced a CSU timeout which prompted an A&M service error but the Bulldogs recovered with three-straight followed by six of the next eight points to seal the victory.
- Alabama A&M hit a whopping .444 for the set compared to just .077 for the Eagles.
Inside the Numbers
- Freshman Miajavon Coleman led all players with 13 kills while hitting .226 along with eight digs which were second on the team.
- Junior Asia Stennis had a match-high 14.-0points with 11 kills on 29 swings to go with three aces and five blocks.
- Freshman Lauryn Harrell was third on the squad with seven kills.
- Freshman Brianna Lang tallied 13 assists in each of the first two sets and finished with 32 for the match. Lang also contributed on defense with a pair of blocks and six digs.
- Junior Christa Johnson matched Lang's two blocks and freshman Chelsie Kolibar led all players with ten digs.
- Coppin had ten service errors and were outhit .281 to .163.
