Volleyball No Match For Hard-Hitting Lehigh, Loses 3-0

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – CSU finished the Crosstown Invitational 1-3 over the weekend as it fell to Rutgers, Lafayette, and Lehigh, while earning the win over Manhattan. Coppin was unable to slow down the Mountain Hawks high octane attack, allowing Lehigh to smash an even 50 kills in route to a one-sided sweep.

How It Happened
First Set
  • Lehigh pounced on the Eagles to start the match, getting seven kills to go ahead 11-4 before Tim Walsh had seen enough, calling timeout.
  • Coppin State put up little resistance as the Mountain Hawks pounded the ball at will, accumulating a .452 percentage, 16 kills, 16 assists, and 13 digs in a lopsided 25-15 first set.
Second Set
  • CSU woke up in the second, as the two teams exchanged leads resulting in a 7-7 tie.
  • The Lady Eagles would hang around, staying within three for most of the match, but could not inch any closer.
  • LU would break the set open with a 8-2 outburst to cap off the win 25-16.
  • Miajavon Coleman single-handedly kept the Eagles within range, logging four kills in the set.
  • The Mountain Hawks received significant kills from Sabrina Lancaster (5) & Julia Pressly (4), to force Coppin into a 0-2 series hole.
Third Set
  • CSU remained resilient, keeping the Mountain Hawks within arm's length for the entire set, but failed to capitalize on the opportunity.
  • Lehigh wore down an exhausted Lady Eagles team, sweeping Coppin State 25-23 and remaining unbeaten on the 2018 campaign.
Inside the Numbers
  • The Eagles blocked a season-high seven attacks, with the previous high of five coming against Manhattan and UNC Asheville.
  • Jordan Celestine was the highlight of the blocking game, swatting down six shots over the course of the day (two games).
  • Lehigh shared the glory between Patriot League assist leader Megan Polak and Alina Lam, as they contributed 15 and 22 assists, respectively.
  • LU had both Julia Pressly and Sabrina Lancaster notch double-digit kills along with Lancaster hitting a superb .457.
  • Brianna Lang has led the team in assists every game so far this year, closing the day with 26 against the Mountain Hawks.
  • Chelsie Kolibar has come on strong of late, tallying 10 or more digs in two of her last three outings.
