Volleyball Falls To Appalachian State in Game 2

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The women's volleyball team struggled to find its footing Saturday afternoon as it fell to the Appalachian State Mountaineers in straight sets. The Eagles have not tasted victory in two matches but will get one more crack at a win later today against The Citadel.

How It Happened
First Set
  • Coppin State came out of the blocks fast, edging the Mountaineers 6-4 before an Appalachian State timeout.
  • App State would respond to take a 14-11 advantage before CSU would call timeout.
  • The timeout did little to stop the surging Mountaineers as they steamrolled their way to a 25-13 first set behind eight consecutive Appalachian points out of the timeout
Second Set
  • The second set saw Appalachian State race to a 8-3 lead before the Eagles clawed its way back to 11 apiece.
  • That was the last time Coppin State kept it close with ASU taking control, outscoring the Lady Eagles 14-3 through the remainder of the set to take a 25-14 victory.
Third Set
  • Appalachian State found its groove in the final set, leading the entire way to a 3-0 sweep.
Inside the Numbers
  • Freshman Lauryn Harrell led the Lady Eagles with six kills while fellow Freshman Rebekka Hauri paced CSU with seven digs.
  • Emma Longley carried the Mountaineers offensive onslaught with 11 kills as well as a staggering .556 hitting percentage.
  • ASU was firing on all cylinders as the Mountaineers piled up a hitting percentage of at least .310 in its three sets while sealing the match with a .458 hitting percentage as a team in the final set.

  • The Lady Eagles face a quick turnaround as its final contest of the UNC Asheville Invitational will begin at 4 p.m. against The Citadel Bulldogs.
