INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Coppin State's
Joseph Amoah and
Aaron Lewis qualified for the NCAA East Regional Track & Field Championships in their individual events to be held in Tampa, Fla., on May 24-26. Amoah will compete in both the 100m and 200m Dash while Lewis qualified in the 110m hurdles. Additionally, the 4x100m Relay team will also compete.
A sophomore from Greater Accra, Ghana, Amoah is seeded 16
th in the 100m dash and 22
nd in the 200m dash. Amoah qualified in the 100m with a time of 10.20 which was the top time during the MEAC Championship preliminary. His time of 20.63 in the 200m was also ran at the MEAC Championships.
This is the second-straight season that Amoah qualified for Regionals in both events. Amoah took 33
rd last season in the 100m Dash and 28
th in the 200m Dash.
The prelims of the 100m Dash is set for 6:30 pm on Thursday, May 24, with the finals to take place on Friday, May 25 at 6:00 pm.
Lewis will compete individually at Regionals for the first time after just missing the cutoff last season. The native of Scarborough, Trinidad & Tobago won the 110m hurdles at the IC4A Championships last weekend and advanced to Regionals by running a school-record 13.85 at the MEAC Championships.
The 110m hurdles prelims will kick off Friday's events at 4:30 pm followed by the finals on Saturday at 7:05 pm.
The duo will also make up half of the 4x100m Relay which is seeded 17
th with a school-record time of 39.73, which was recorded at the Florida Relays. Seniors
Keshaun Hodges and
Martin Owusu-Antwi made up the other half of the school-record relay.
Amoah and Owusu-Antwi made up half of the 4x100m Relay that qualified for Regionals last year and took 17
th in 39.83.
Saturday's events start with the 4x100m Relay at 6:00 pm.
