BALTIMORE – Coppin State's men's basketball team shot just 33.3% from the field in the second half compared to a whopping 60.0% for UMBC as the Retrievers were victorious, 71-60, on Monday night at PEC Arena.

How It Happened:
First Half
- Lamar Morgan sunk a three-pointer out of the gate and Taqwain Drummond was able to get to the basket at will as Coppin jumped out to a 9-2 lead after a 3-pointer by Dejuan Clayton. Drummond made 5-of-6 shots from the line in the first half, all of which came in the first eight minutes and four in the first 2:30.
- Following a triple UMBC's Joe Sherburne, Clayton hit another jumper and Drummond hit two more free throws to give CSU its largest lead at 13-5 with 12:45 to go.
- The Retrievers scored eight-straight to tie the score before Chad Andrews-Fulton buried a three from the top of the key, giving the Eagles back the lead.
- There were three lead changes the rest of the way as CSU held a lead no larger than six points but with the score tied at 30, Justin Steers and Cedric Council each made free throws to give Coppin a 32-30 halftime lead.
Second Half
- UMBC took the lead after making a three out of the break but the advantage was short lived as Drummond answered with a layup.
- The Retrievers then went on a 13-3 run over the next 4:30 to take a 46-37 lead with 13:36 remaining.
- This prompted a Coppin timeout and Kent Auslander answered the call with a three, but UMBC ran off another nine-straight points to extend its lead to 55-40 with 11:04 remaining.
- Auslander once again responded with a three, sparking a 11-0 Eagles run to close the deficit to 55-51 with 6:14 left to play.
- Sherburne then scored four of the game's next six points following a dunk by Ricky Council to get the lead back into double digits with 4:22 left and CSU got no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Inside the Numbers
- All eight players who checked in for Coppin State scored, led by Justin Steers who finished with ten points off the bench.
- Chad Andrews-Fulton and Lamar Morgan added nine points each while Dejuan Clayton and Taqwain Drummond chipped in with eight points apiece.
- Kent Auslander also tallied six points, as did Ibn Williams, and also pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.
- Coppin finished with a 36.7% shooting percentage and made just 17-of-29 (58.6%) from the line. The Eagles committed 15 turnovers which turned into 27 Retrievers points.
- After shooting 35.7% from the floor in the first half, UMBC wound up shooting 47.2% for the game.
- Joe Sherburne finished with a game-high 22 points on 7-of-9 shooting while four 3-pointers.
