Volleyball Prepares For MEAC Crossover Match With Bethune-Cookman

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Lady Eagles will duke it out with the MEAC South preseason favorite, Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, at 5 p.m. his Friday in the PEC. CSU will look to build momentum off of its victory over Delaware State on Sunday as it begins the second half of conference play.
 
What You Need to Know Coppin Contributors
  • Miajavon Coleman has continued rewriting the Coppin record books, as she has joined the 20-kill club four times already as a freshman, surpassing the mark in three consecutive matches.
  • Coleman won MEAC Rookie of the Week honors for last week's performances (53 kills over two matches) and places inside the top-60 players nationally in total points (322.0) and total kills (302).
  • Brianna Lang earned her second MEAC Setter of the Week award this past weekend, as she recorded her sixth double-double, averaged 11.0 assists per set, swatted a season-high four blocks in the match with UMES, and amassed 50 assists in the UMES clash.
  • Lang currently sits in third place on the MEAC leaderboard with 8.61 assist per set.
  • Junior Asia Stennis has started to heat up, chalking up a double-double in both contests last weekend and bringing her season total to four.
  • Stennis ranks inside the top-10 in the conference for kills per set (2.81) and points per set (3.12).
  • Libero/Defensive Specialist Chelsie Kolibar rounds out the Eagles MEAC leaders, accumulating 2.89 assists per set to lead the team.
  • Rebekka Hauri and Aislynn Weaver have been the go-to servers for CSU, with each hitting the floor 17 times for aces, tops on the squad.
  • Christa Johnson paces the Lady Eagles with 59 blocks. Jordan Celestine slots in second at 48.
Scouting the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats
  • Bethune-Cookman have been up-and-down in its past six matches, splitting wins and losses. The Wildcats come into today's match currently third in the MEAC South division at 3-2.
  • B-CU has been superb at digging, as it resides among the nation's top-50 in team digs (1,287). Jordan Jefferson and Shayla Eugene both sit near the top of the MEAC in digs per set, tallying 4.29 and 3.65, respectively.
  • Jefferson has been a mainstay in the MEAC weekly awards category in 2018, racking up four Player of the Week honors and a Defensive Specialist of the Week award.
  • Jefferson is a dual-threat weapon for the Wildcats, as she leads the squad in both kills (260) and digs (339).
  • Shayla Eugene has come on strong over the past 5 games, netting Defensive Specialist of the Week accolades in successive weeks.
  • Coppin will need to evade Bethune's Meraiah Hill and Delaine Fulton as they are first and third in the MEAC in blocks per set, respectively.
  • J'Nai Higgins is the primary setter for the Wildcats as she's sixth in the conference with 6.98 assists per set, while Tynesha Adams places ninth in hitting percentage.
