Baltimore, MD - Coppin volleyball (0-7) lost in straight sets to UMBC 3-0 today (16-25, 14-25, 17-25) at the RAC Arena on the Retrievers campus.
Angel Jamerson lead the Lady Eagles with eight kills, three blocks, and a attack percentage of .333.
The Lady Eagles were plagued by a season high 30 errors that kept the team from getting on track. The first set saw both team trade points with UMBC maintaining the lead the entire first set. Coppin had a three point run that included an ace by
Asia Stennis and kills by Jamerson and Stennis from
Dominique Madarang that cut the lead 13-16. Coppin would close the gap to 15-17 after a UMBC attack error. The set and momentum would be lost as the Retrievers went on an 8-1 run to close out the set.
The second set saw the Lady Eagles start off strong and take a 4-1 lead by two service aces by
Jennifer Gell and a block by Vailyah Barnes and Jamerson. The Retrievers would storm back on a 24-9 run to take the second set. The third set would see Coppin again take a 4-1 lead. This time it was UMBC committing the errors and Jamerson getting the kill from Madarang to give the Lady Eagles momentum. UMBC would come back and take the lead 4-5 before Coppin went on a 4-1 lead to control the scoreboard 8-6. Coppin would continue to hold off UMBC two more times to keep the lead 11-10 after an
Elanna Nellis block. The Retrievers would once again bounce back to close the set and match on a 15-6 run.
