Pittsburgh, PA - Volleyball fell to 0-6 for the season as they lost to Robert Morris 3-0 (10-25, 17-25, 19-25) Saturday afternoon. The match was the final game of the Duquesne Invitational which included matches against Canisius and Duquesne. Sophomore
Asia Stennis was named to the tournament team after amassing 38 kills and 16 digs for the weekend.
Coppin fell behind early in the first set of the match but was able to tie the score at 2 when
Angel Jamerson got the kill from
Dominique Madarang. The Lady Eagles were able to tie it up at 3 after a
Christa Johnson block and Robert Morris attack error. Robert Morris would run away with the set win by going on a 22-7 point run. In the second set, Coppin jumped to an early 3-0 lead that included two attack errors by Robert Morris and another Jamerson kill from Madarang. The Lady Eagles would increase the lead to 4-1 after a Stennis kill from
Glorines Rosado. Robert Morris would go on a 10-3 run to take the lead 11-7 before Coppin would string together its own run. Coppin battled back to tie the set at 11 with a Marlena Guice service ace.The recovery was short lived as Robert Morris would then go on a 14-6 run to close out the set. The third set saw both schools trading points before Coppin went on a three point run to take the lead 10-9. The scoring run included two Stennis kills from Madarang and a Valiyah Barnes kill. Coppin would lose the lead but come within one point after a Johnson and Stennis block; then a Robert Morris attack error to put the score 17-18. Robert Morris would wrapup the set and match with a 7-2 point run to close out the tournament for the Eagles.
Coppin returns to action Tuesday as they travel to local opponent UMBC at 7pm.
