Baltimore, MD - The Lady Eagles (0-11) fell to the Loyola Greyhounds (5-5) at Reitz Arena tonight 3-0 (18-25, 19-25, 21-25) despite 18 assists and 9 digs from
Angel Jamerson.
Elanna Nellis sported her highest hitting percentage of the season with .375 while
Glorines Rosado,
Marlena Guice, and
Bailee Jackson each tallied double digit digs, 14, 11, and 11 respectively.
The first set saw both programs trade scores and Coppin State hold an 8-6 lead. Loyola scraped back and outscored the Lady Eagles 19-10 to take the set. The second set saw Loyola take a 5-1 early lead. Coppin would work its way back into the game and close the gap to a 10-12 score. The Lady Eagles would get within two points three more times with the last surge leaving Coppin behind 18-20. The Greyhounds of Loyola would finish the set on a 5-1 run. The third set saw both team trade scores again and Coppin tie it up at 4 after a
Christa Johnson kill from Jamerson. Loyola would then proceed on a 6-1 run before Coppin scored three straight to round up the score 8-10. Coppin and Loyola would again trade points, but Coppin would not get closer than 3 as Loyola would move on to take the set and match.
Coppin returns to the court this Friday as they participate in the Henson Hawk Invite hosted by Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe Maryland Eastern Shore. Coppin will face Maryland Eastern Shore (7-3) and Campbell (7-4) on Friday at 12pm and 4pm. They will close out the Invite Saturday at 4pm against UNC Asheville (2-6).
