Men's Basketball to Play at Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Coppin State returns to action at Maryland Eastern Shore (7-16, 4-4) on Saturday evening in the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. The Eagles (5-18, 4-4) are seeking their first win at Maryland Eastern Shore since 2014, having dropped their last three games in the series including one road game at The Shore in 2015.
 
SATURDAY NIGHT'S MATCHUP
The Eagles are 3-2 in their last five meetings at Maryland Eastern Shore. Their last victory was on Feb. 8, 2014 (58-50) but fell (92-82) in their last meeting on the road on Jan. 31, 2015. Last season Coppin State was defeated in overtime 83-81 in Baltimore, MD on Jan. 30, 2016.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Dejuan Clayton scored a team-leading 20 points as Coppin State dropped a 77-65 decision at Hampton on Monday, Jan. 30. That was the Eagles third loss in a row after starting out MEAC play with a 4-1 record. Terry Harris Jr. scored in double-figures for the second consecutive game with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field while Chas Brown added 12 points and made 4-of-6 free-throws. Brown is on a current five game streak scoring in double-digits. He also had two assists, a steal and a block with three rebounds.
 
DOUBLE-DIGIT SCORING
Three Eagles are currently registering consecutive double figure scoring games. In the last five games, Chas Brown and Dejuan Clayton has shined for Coppin State scoring at least ten points in each. Brown began the streak with a season-high 18 points vs. NCA&T and most recently had 12 points at Hampton. Clayton scored a season-high 28 points at Howard and led the Eagles in scoring with 20 points at Hampton. Terry Harris Jr. had back-to-back games with 19 points versus Morgan State and 14 points at Hampton.
 
ON THE ROAD
Coppin State has compiled a 2-14 record in road and neutral-site games, including MEAC wins over Bethune-Cookman (76-73) and Howard (81-72). The Eagles are 2-2 in MEAC road games thus far.
 
ABOUT MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE
The Shore are 3-3 at home this season with a 1-2 MEAC record. Most recently, Maryland Eastern Shore suffered a one point loss to Hampton on the road (66-65) where three scored in double figures led by Bakari Copeland's 17 points. Copeland leads the Hawks in scoring and ranks fifth in the MEAC at 16.7 points per game and seventh in rebounds at 6.3 per game. Ryan Andino averages 13.7 points per game and ranks 14th in the conference in scoring.
 
MADE THREE-POINTERS STREAK CONTINUES FOR EAGLES
Coppin State has made at least one three-point field goal in 209 consecutive games over the past seven seasons; which is the current longest streak in the nation. The last time the Eagles were unable to register a made three-pointer in a game was back on Feb. 22, 2010 at Delaware State (0-8).

  • Dejuan Clayton ranks 24th in scoring (10.8), tied for 11th in steals (1.1), 13th in assists (2.9)
  • Terry Harris Jr. is 16th in rebounding (5.4), 12th in free-throw percentage (.750) and 14th in defensive rebounds (4.0)
  • Keith Shivers is tied for 11th in steals (1.1)
  • Tre' Thomas is 13th in three-point field goals made (1.9)
  •  Blake Simpson is 10th in offensive rebounds (2.0)
UP NEXT
The Eagles begin a three game home stretch inside the Physical Education Complex on Monday, February 6th against North Carolina Central at 7:30 p.m. NCCU leads the all-time series with the Eagles 7-3, despite CSU winning their last meeting in Baltimore on Feb. 18, 2016 (71-60). Then Coppin State will host Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, February 11th at 4 p.m. and then Delaware State rounds out the home slate on Monday, February 13th at 7:30 p.m.
