BALTIMORE, Md. – Mount St. Mary's used a pair of runs in the first half to defeat Coppin State University's men's basketball team, 66-53 at the PEC Arena on Friday night. The Eagles fall to 0-13 on the season with the loss while the Mountaineers improve to 6-7.
Lamar Morgan led Coppin with 18 points while burying four shots from behind-the-arc, to go with six rebounds.
Karonn Davis also finished in double figures with 12 points along with six assists.
Chad Andrews-Fulton also set a season-high with eight points after being inserted into the starting lineup.
The teams traded leads early to start the game, but after
KeAndre Fair hit his first of two three's on the night to give the Eagles a 7-5 lead, Mount St. Mary's scored nine-straight to take a seven-point lead. Back-to-back triples by Davis cut the deficit to a single point.
Morgan then answered a three by the Mountaineers to make the score 17-16 in favor of the Mount but the Mountaineers then went on a 14-2 run to take a 13-point lead before Fair's second trifecta.
Junior Robinson, who recorded a game-high 23 points to go with eight assists and five rebounds, then hit a floater as time expired to give Mount St. Mary's a 33-21 halftime lead.
Coppin would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way as it trailed by as many as 21 points. The Eagles outrebounded the Mountaineers, 38-36, but the Mount shot 45.6% from the floor, including 51.9% in the second half compared to just 30.4% shooting for Coppin.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, December 27 when they travel to take on Georgia Tech before closing out 2017 at Penn State on Saturday, December 30.
