Eagles Look to Continue Win Streak at Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Eagles (2-12, 2-0) will play their second road MEAC contest of the season on Monday, January 9th at Bethune-Cookman (6-8, 2-0). Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. (ET). Coppin State is on a two game win streak after beginning the season with 12 consecutive losses. Coppin State leads the all-time series with Bethune-Cookman 30-26 but lost their last two games against the Wildcats in the series. Coppin State last won at Bethune-Cookman on March 1, 2012 (58-55).

COPPIN STATE's LAST TIME OUT
The Eagles won their second consecutive MEAC contest with a 70-62 road victory over Florida A&M on Saturday, January 7th in the Al Lawson Center. Red-shirt junior Genesis Lucas set a new career-high with 27 points against the Rattlers. Lucas made ten shots from the field, four free-throws and three three-pointers. She also dished out a game-high five assists and led the defense with four steals. Senior Keena Samuels finished with 16 points and graduate Tiara Goode added 14 points and junior Candice Beverly had seven points.

EAGLES AMONGST THE MEAC RANKINGS
  • Genesis Lucas ranks in the MEAC top-10 in seven different categories; sixth in the conference in scoring (14.4), third in assists (3.8), fourth in steals (2.4), fifth in free-throw percentage (.766), fourth in steals (2.5), fifth in three-point field goal percentage (.351), three-point field goals made (1.7), assist/turnover ratio (0.9) and in minutes played (33.9) per game.
  • Keena Samuels ranks 15th in scoring (10.9), 14th in field goal percentage (.358), 10th in free-throw percentage (.721) and fifth steals (1.9).
  • Tiara Goode is 27th in scoring (9.2) and sixth in three-point field goals made (1.6).
  • Chance Graham is seventh in rebounding (7.4), 14th in blocked shots (0.8), fourth in offensive rebounds (3.3) and 11th in defensive rebounds (4.1).
  • Oluwaseun Adeniji is tied for 13th in blocked shots (0.8).

LUCAS NAMED MEAC CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Genesis Lucas was named co-Player of the Week for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Confernece announced on Monday, January 9th after averaging 25.5 points, 6.5 assists and 4.0 steals per game in a pair of MEAC wins over South Carolina State and Florida A&M. She finished with a game-high 24 points, eight assists and four steals leading Coppin State women's basketball to their first victory of the season vs. SCSU. Then Lucas set a new career-high with 27 points against the Rattlers on ten shots from the field, four free-throws and three three-pointers. She also dished out a game-high five assists and led the defense with four steals.

GRAHAM RECEIVES SECOND MEAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS
Chance Graham was named Rookie of the Week for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Confernece for the second time this season announced on Monday, January 9th after she led the Eagles in rebounding averaging 9.0 per game in a pair of MEAC wins over South Carolina State and Florida A&M. She tied her season-high of 11 rebounds for the third time this season against SCSU and also scored eight points. She earned her first ROW honors on Monday, Nov. 14th. after averaging a double-double of 10.0 points and 10.0 rebounds against VCU and Virginia. She registered 13 points, nine rebounds, two steals, one block and one assist against Virginia.

CURRENT WIN STREAK
Coppin State is 2-0 in the month of January and also in MEAC league play. Recently, the Eagles downed Florida A&M by eight (70-62) on the road winning their first away game of the year. The Eagles won their first game of the 2016-17 season at home against South Carolina State by 16 points (70-54). The victory marks first year head coach DeWayne Burroughs' first win as a Division I head coach as well as his first at Coppin State.

ALL-TIME ASSISTS
Genesis Lucas climbs up to seventh in school history in career assist totals with 254. As a sophomore she dished out 130 and as a freshman 82. Now in her third season she has 40 thus far, and will look to pass No. 6 Liesha Mitchell (266) next.

MILESTONES
Senior Keena Samuels has 193 career rebounds and is currently 7 rebounds shy of 200 total.
Red-shirt junior Genesis Lucas has 202 rebounds in her career.
Freshman Chance Graham has collected 103 rebounds in her rookie season.

UP NEXT
Coppin State returns to the Physical Education Complex on Saturday, January 14th for an afternoon contest against North Carolina A&T at 2 p.m. The Eagles trail the all-time series against the Aggies 33-30 and split last year's meeting with CSU winning at home 65-59 on Jan 27th. NC A&T defeated CSU in the 2016 MEAC Tournament championship game 65-46 on March 12th.
