HAMPTON, Va. – The Eagles had a trio score in double figures with freshmen
Dejuan Clayton leading the way with 20 points in a 77-65 road MEAC loss to Hampton University on Monday, January 30
th in the HU Convocation Center.
Coppin State drops to 5-18 overall and 4-4 in conference play. Hampton moves to 7-13 overall and 4-3 in MEAC play.
Clayton finished with season-highs in rebounds (5), steals (3) and three-point attempts. He was 6-for-14 from the field, 3-for-9 from three-point range and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line recording his second 20+ game of the season. Senior
Terry Harris Jr. scored in double-figures for the second consecutive game with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. Senior
Chas Brown added 12 points and made 4-of-6 free-throws. Brown is on a current five game streak scoring in double-digits. He also had two assists, a steal and a block with three rebounds.

Joshua Treadwell led the Eagles in rebounding with seven and senior
Keith Shivers contributed six rebounds and six points.
Harris Jr. scored eight quick points within the first five minutes with Coppin State leading 11-4. Hampton tied the game by the 12:14 mark (11-11) and led by a small margin over the next six minutes. Brown knocked down a pair of free-throws giving CSU their final lead of the night 18-17 with 5:15 to play in the first half. The Pirates jumped back in the lead and carried a 30-25 advantage into halftime.
In the second half the Pirates led the length of the way converting on 13-of-14 free-throws. The Eagles offense picked up behind Clayton's 14 points and Brown's eight points. Down the stretch Coppin State made it a 67-63 game with 1:51 left to play. The Pirates then responded with a dunk while CSU turned it over and then a pair of free-throws brought the lead to 71-63 with 1:07 on the clock. Hampton eventually held on for a 77-65 win at home. HU made an impressive 14-of-15 free-throws posting a CSU opponent season-high percentage of .933.
Coppin State continues their two game road trip with a Saturday afternoon matchup in Princess Anne, MD against Maryland Eastern Shore on February 4th at 4 p.m. The Eagles lead the all-time series against the Hawks 59-19.
