BALTIMORE, Md. – Coppin State volleyball rallied back from a two sets to one deficit against the Hampton Pirates, but fell 17-15 in the deciding fifth set on Sunday afternoon in the PEC Auxiliary Gym.
Hampton (2-11, 1-1 MEAC) won 3-2 (25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 24-26, 17-15) as the Eagles (0-16, 0-2 MEAC) drop their third straight five set match.
Freshman
Angel Jamerson set a career-best with nine kills, eight digs, a service ace and a solo block leading the Eagles against the Pirates. Her .120 attack percentage was also a season-high on 25 attempts. The Eagles .158 attack percentage was their fourth highest of the year. Coppin State also won the defensive battle (60-49) in digs but the Pirates scored ten service aces while the Eagles had three.
Hampton took set one 25-21 after a solid start to the afternoon. The Pirates had 11 kills with three errors (.308 attack %) while the Eagles matched them in kills (11) but committed eight errors. Junior

Valiyah Barnes added three kills and freshman
Kennedy Curtis had a pair. Freshman

Angel Jamerson collected four digs apiece.
Coppin State responded with vengeance in the next set led by Jamerson. She sparked the Eagles with four kills as Coppin State tallied 12 team kills (.318 attack %) and held the Pirates to only seven kills (-.080) and into nine errors. Junior
Guro Froberg and Barnes were both a perfect 3-for-3 on attacks in the set. Jackson spiked a solo block and the Eagles pulled out a 25-18 win in the second set.
The third set was a rough one for the Eagles with minimal offense amounting to seven kills. The Pirates posted 15 kills (.333 attack %) and registered a pair of blocks winning the set 25-20. Madarang had a team-high two kills in the set and added three assists. Rosado carried the defense with six digs in the set.
CSU's Froberg initiated a come-from-behind fourth set victory with five kills. Hampton took a 17-13 lead midway through the set before the Eagles rallied from behind to tie the match at 24-24. Consecutive attack errors by the Pirates anchored the CSU to a 26-24 victory in set four. Madarang served up 11 assists and Rosado added seven digs to her total.
The Eagles had the early momentum in the final set paced by Jackson's three kills. Froberg had two kills in the set but Hampton's Reeana Richardson was a beast hammering five kills propelling the Pirates to a 17-15 victory. HU had ten team kills compared to only six by the Eagles. Coppin State is still searching for their first win of the season after their third straight five set defeat.
Two Eagles reached double figure kills.
Guro Froberg tied a season-best with 12 kills along with
Bailee Jackson.
Dominique Madarang had 37 assists and
Glorines Rosado tied a season-high with 22 digs.
Coppin State returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 2 with a road match against Howard at 3 p.m.
