WASHINGTON, D.C. – Freshman
Angel Jamerson recorded a season-best 20 assists in a straight-set sweep to Howard on Sunday, October 2 in Burr Gym.
Coppin State drops to 0-17 overall and 0-3 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play while Howard moves to 14-5 overall and 4-0 in the MEAC. The Eagles fell 3-0 (22-25, 20-25, 15-25) but finished with 30 kills on a .108 attack percentage.
The Eagles came out strong against the top team in the conference with 12 kills in the opening set. Jamerson paced the Eagles offense with seven assists in both the first and third sets. She added three kills in the first set along with junior
Valiyah Barnes.
In the next set, junior
Bailee Jackson had five of CSU's 11 kills carrying the load. Jackson's attack percentage was .444 for the set as the Eagles soared with a match-low four errors. Howard had their best set of the match with 17 kills and two errors taking a commanding 2-0 lead.
Junior
Glorines Rosado had six digs in the third and final set with Jamerson adding three to help out the defensive pressure. The Bison closed out the match with 16 kills compared to only seven by the Eagles. Jackson had three kills and Barnes had two kills, but Howard was too much for the young Eagles in their MEAC road opener.
Angel Jamerson reached the 20 assist plateau for the first time in her young career. She added six digs, three kills and two blocks against Howard.
Bailee Jackson had a team-high ten kills and two digs.
Valiyah Barnes tied a season-high with three assisted blocks while finishing with eight kills and junior
Guro Froberg posted five kills, five digs and had a season-best three assists.
Glorines Rosado collected 14 digs and had five assists and freshman
Christa Johnson had her first block of the season.
Coppin State volleyball returns to action on Friday, Oct. 7 with a road trip to Princess Anne, MD to tangle with the Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore at 7 pm.
