Volleyball Edged by New Hampshire in Straight-Sets; Lougheed Named to All-Tournament Team

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Coppin State's volleyball team was edged in straight-sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-12) by New Hampshire in their final match of the Kristen Dickmann Invitational on Saturday, August 27 at the Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse.

Freshman middle blocker Jasmine Lougheed was named to the Kristen Dickmann Invitational All-Tournament Team representing Coppin State. Lougheed finished with 19 kills, on 37 attempts with only two errors. She posted a .459 hitting percentage, recorded three digs and assisted on a block during the weekend.

The Eagles attack percentage was a season-best with .170 on 27-of-88 attempts against the Wildcats. Freshman Asia Stennis was impressive with seven kills and seven digs tallying season-best. Stennis had four of Coppin State's ten kills in the opening set as the Wildcats netted 17-of-38 attempts. Junior Guro Froberg added on three kills while junior Bailee Jackson pitched in defensively with two digs. UNH took the first set 25-21.

Coppin State had their best set of the match in the second. Five Eagles garnered multiple kills paced by Jasmine Lougheed and Froberg's three kills apiece. On the defensive side, Jackson carried the load with four digs and a solo block along with Stennis. The score was tied 11 times with the lead changing three times. Neither team led by more than two points, but in the end New Hampshire pulled out a 25-23 win taking a 2-0 advantage in the match.

New Hampshire's defense played a huge part in their 25-12 victory in the third set over Coppin State. NHU posted 12 kills with four errors and limited the Eagles to only four team kills. CSU's offense struggled in the final set and their defense collected nine digs as they went down in straight-sets 3-0.

Guro Froberg finished with six kills and five digs. Jasmine Lougheed continued her strong play with five kills on ten attempts and Bailee Jackson had four kills with a team-high nine digs. Freshman Dominique Madarang did a great job setting up her teammates with 22 assists as the Eagles dealt New Hampshire 27 attacks.

Coppin State heads to the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational next weekend on September 2-3. The Eagles open against Duquesne at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 2.
