ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Freshman
Jasmine Lougheed reached double figures with 11 kills posting a .455 attack percentage as Coppin State dropped their second match of the season to Navy 3-1 (26-24, 25-20, 14-25, 25-17) on Saturday, August 27 in Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse.
Coppin State came out with a powerful start jumping out to a 10-1 advantage over Navy. Junior
Bailee Jackson anchored the early charge with a service ace and a kill. Attack errors by the Mids also aided to the fast start for the Eagles as their lead grew (20-11). Navy turned things around tying the set (20-20) before Jackson's kills gave the Eagles a slight (21-20) advantage. In the final moments Navy rallied off five kills getting past the Coppin State defense and coming from behind and taking the set (26-24).
Jasmine Lougheed started in her first match of the season and had four early kills heading into set two.
Navy controlled things in set two never trailing the Eagles. Lougheed tacked on three kills for the Eagles' offense and freshman
Dominique Madarang had a pair of service aces. Coppin State went down (25-20) with a game-low eight team kills.
Trailing Navy (2-0) in the match Coppin State turned things around in the third set. The Eagles limited themselves to only two errors and picked up the pace defensively with 14 digs. Junior
Glorines Rosado had five digs in that set while Jackson added on three digs with three kills. Freshman
Asia Stennis joined the fun with a solo block and two kills as Coppin State took set three (25-14).
In set four, Navy cleaned up their play and closed out the match with 14 kills and two errors winning (25-17). The Eagles fell apart with nine errors but junior
Guro Froberg kept things going with four kills.
The Eagles had successful first and third sets against the Mids combining for six total errors. In the second and fourth sets the Eagles struggled combining for 16 errors.
Jasmine Lougheed led the Coppin State attack with 11 kills posting a .455 attack percentage.
Bailee Jackson had a solid outing with nine kills, 13 digs, and four service aces. Junior
Valiyah Barnes added eight kills with a .462 attack percentage along with a solo block.
Asia Stennis and
Guro Froberg each had five kills. Froberg also had eight digs and Stennis protected the net with two solo blocks.
The Eagles finished with a .120 hitting percentage on 39 kills.
Dominique Madarang paced CSU with 33 assists, nine digs, and three service aces.
Glorines Rosado recorded three assists but led the defensive charge with 18 digs.
Coppin State plays in their final match of the Kristen Dickmann Invitational later on today against New Hampshire at 4:30 p.m.
