DUNDALK – The Coppin State baseball team finished its weekend home finale on Monday, May 9 with a 9-3 loss to Norfolk State at CCBC-Dundalk Field.
The Spartans controlled the game from the opening pitch taking an early 6-0 lead scoring four runs in the second inning, and one run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Eagles registered three hits in the loss.
George Dragon recorded Coppin's first hit of the game with a single to right field in the bottom of the second inning. Coppin State responded the Spartans early runs with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Miranda was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Dragon followed with his team-leading 29
th walk of the season. Then freshman catcher
John O'Dwyer knocked a two-run triple to center field, scoring Miranda and Dragon.
It was the first triple of the season for J. O'Dwyer. But Norfolk State still held a 6-2 lead after the fourth inning.
The Spartans added one more run in the top of the fifth inning to take a 7-2 advantage.

George Dragon singled down the right field line for the Eagles third and final hit of the afternoon.
Miranda was brought home on a sacrifice fly to right field by senior designated hitter
Darien Percell, brining the score to 7-3 in favor of Norfolk State.
The Spartans closed the game with two runs in the final inning of action to claim a 9-3 victory.
Freshman Devin Rivera-Ozuna led the Eagles tossing 4.0 innings and retiring three Spartan batters.

Coppin State will finish its season on the road with matchup against the University of Richmond on Wednesday, May 11 at 3:00 p.m. at Pitt Field in Richmond, VA. ?
