CSU’s Late Rally Falls Short in 5-4 Loss to Georgetown

BALTIMORE- Senior outfielder John Kraft blasted a solo home run in Coppin State's matchup with Georgetown University on Wednesday, March 30 at Joe Cannon Stadium in Baltimore. Junior infielder Bryant Miranda also hit a solo home run.

It was the second home run of the 2016 season for both Eagles.

Kraft finished with two hits, two RBIs and one HR registering back-to-back multi-hit performances.

Coppin State finished with six hits and scored five runs against the Hoyas.

Freshman pitcher Andrew O'Dwyer got the Eagles off to a strong start, striking out two Hoya batters in the opening inning of play.

Georgetown got on the board first scoring one run on two hits in the top of the second inning.

That's when Bryant Miranda answered with a lead off solo shot over the left field wall for the Eagles first run and tying the game at 1-1.

Freshman infielder Jamar Criss singled to left field for Coppin State's second hit of the second inning.

Georgetown would add two more runs on two hits in the top of the fifth inning claiming a 3-1 lead.

Freshman catcher John O'Dwyer singled to center field in the bottom of the fifth for the Eagles third hit of the game.

Georgetown punched in one run in the sixth inning and one run in the eighth taking a 5-1 after the top of the eighth inning.

John Kraft responded by hammering a leadoff home run over the center field fence to close the Hoyas lead to 5-2.

The Eagles would make a late comeback surge in the final inning of play.

Senior outfielder Darien Percell led off with a single up the middle for the Eagles first hit of the inning and fifth overall.

After, senior infielder Colin Dower was walked advancing Percell to second, both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch during the next at bat.

Kraft followed by smashing a two run RBI single down the right field line scoring Percell and Dower.

That was the final score for the Eagles in their late attempt at a rally, falling to the Hoyas, 5-4.

Freshman Andrew O'Dwyer led the Eagles tossing three innings and striking out three.

Freshman Jahmon Taylor added two strikeouts for Coppin State.

Coppin State will host Norfolk State University for a MEAC weekend series. The Eagles and Spartans will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 2 with the first game starting at 1:00 p.m. and single game on Sunday, April 3 with a noon start.

All games will be played at Joe Cannon Stadium.
