Lady Eagles Look to Protect Win Streak in Season Finale at Delaware State

BALTIMORE- The Coppin State Lady Eagles (12-15, 9-6) will close out their regular season schedule with a trip to Dover, DE on Thursday March 3 to face the Delaware State Lady Hornets in Memorial Hall Gym. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE EAGLES
The Lady Eagles are 12-15 and are coming off a 82-38 Homecoming/Senior Night win over Morgan State February 27. Coppin State is 9-6 in MEAC play and has won five consecutive games.
 
Five Lady Eagles are averaging at least 8.0 points per game. Four of those players are in the top 30 in scoring in the MEAC. Keena Samuel and Janelle Lane are putting in a team-leading 11.3 points per game apiece. Samuels has scored in double figures in 13 of 16 MEAC game this season.
 
Lane has 19 double digits coring games this season.
 
Omaah Tayong leads the Lady Eagles in rebounding. Her 8.6 rebounds per game ranks fourth in the MEAC. Tayong is adding 9.4 points for Coppin State.
 
Genesis Lucas leads Coppin State in steals (60) and assists (116) through 25 games. She has led the Lady Eagles in steals 17 times and assists 27 times in her career. She is scoring on a 7.8 point per game clip in 34.3 minutes per game.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Coppin State women's basketball team carried its hot shooting streak into Saturday afternoons 82-38 drubbing of the Morgan State Lady Bears in PEC Arena.
 
On a day where five Lady Eagles seniors; Tanaysa Henderson, Omaah Tayong, Amber Griffin, Janelle Lane and Jordan Swails were honored before their last time in front of their Coppin State home crowd. The 44-point win was the Lady Eagles largest margin of victory this season.
 
The stingy Lady Eagles defense held Morgan State 38 points and one assist, both season lows for Coppin State.
 
Coppin State (12-15, 9-6) had four player score in double figures.
 
Senior Amber Griffin led the Lady Eagles with 21 points on 9-of-16 accuracy from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Her 21 points and nine made field goals both tied career highs.
 
Griffin added a season high seven assists, five rebounds and three steals in 31 minutes of action. She also knocked down her only foul shot.
 
Senior Janelle Lane tallied 14 points and six rebounds on a hot 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. Lane added two steals and a block in 27 minutes.
 
Lane scored 10 of her 14 points in the second quarter, including six straight down the stretch to give the Lady Eagles a 45-15 lead with 1:43 left to play.
 
Senior guard Tanaysa Henderson scored a season high 12 points with six rebounds. Henderson sunk five of her 10 shots and added a steal in in 21 minutes.
 
Omaah Tayong finished with 10 points and a team best eight rebounds. Tayong did not miss a shot on Saturday's win as she went 4-of-4 from the field and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.
 
She added a team best two blocks on 20 minutes on the court.
 
Genesis Lucas chipped in nine points, four assists, three rebounds and a steal in 31 minutes.
 
Keena Samuels added eight points, two assists and a rebound. She also tied a team high with three steals in 33 minutes.
 
The Lady Eagles shot a season best 56.3% from the field and 66.7% from 3-point range.
 
Coppin State scored 27 points and collected 14 steals on 18 Morgan State turnovers.
 
The Lady Eagles outrebounded the Lady Bears 42-33 and outscored them in paint points 36-12.
 
Coppin State scored 21 second chance points on 17 offensive rebounds.
 
THURSDAY'S GAME
Coppin State leads the all-time series over Delaware State, 38-25. The Lady Eagles have won each of the last six meetings after an 84-79 home win on Feb. 15.
 
ABOUT DELAWARE STATE
The Lady Hornets (9-19, 6-9 MEAC) are coming off a two game road trip in which they went 1-1. Delaware State notched an 89-81 win over Hampton on Monday February 29.
 
Mikah Aldridge leads Delaware State with 12.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Najai Pollard, who scored a career best 26 points earlier this season against the Lady Eagles is chipping in 11.5 points and 7.8 rebounds for the Lady Hornets.
 
Amber Bogard is adding 10.8 points and 4.1 rebounds.
 
WHATS DOWN THE ROAD
Coppin State will head to Norfolk, Va. for the MEAC Tournament (March 7-12) in search of its first conference tournament championship since 2008. The Lady Eagles have won a tournament game in each of the last five seasons.
 
COPPIN STATE ON THE ROAD
The Lady Eagles are 3-11 away from PEC Arena during the 2015-16 season. Last year Coppin State was 2-13 in games played outside of the Physical Education Complex. Their last road win was February 22 against Norfolk State. The Lady Eagles are 2-5 in MEAC road games this season.

Keena Samuels torched North Carolina A&T for a career high 25 points as the Coppin State Lady Eagles cruised past the Aggies for a 65-59 victory Wednesday evening January, 27 in PEC Arena.
 
After the Aggies took a 50-49 lead with five minutes to play in the second half, a steal and layup by Samuels sparked a 7-0 Lady Eagles run. North Carolina A&T never recaptured the lead.
 
Samuels shot 8-of-15 from the field and knocked down nine of her 12 foul shots. She added two assists and three steals while playing all 40 minutes of the game. Samuels sunk five of her final six free throws to help seal the game for Coppin State.
 
MOST REBOUNDS IN A GAME: Jordan Swails, 16 rebounds, vs. Mt. St. Mary's (Nov. 29, 2015)
Senior Jordan Swails notched her fourth career double double with 11 points and a career best 16 rebounds. Swails was an equal opportunity board snatcher, finishing with eight offensive and defensive rebounds.
 
She added two assists, two steals and two blocks.
 
MOST ASSISTS IN A GAME: Genesis Lucas, 10 assists, vs. North Carolina Central (Feb. 18, 2016)
Genesis Lucas recorded a career best 10 assists. She chipped in nine points, five rebounds and a steal.
 
It was her first career game with double figure assists.
