BALTIMORE-
Danielle Smith registered three hits in Coppin State's home opening doubleheader matchup against Marist on Friday, March 11 at the Softball Complex of the campus of Coppin State University.

In the series opening game, Coppin State had five hits and scored two runs against the Red Foxes.

Senior infielder Danielle singled up the middle in the bottom of the first inning for the Lady Eagles first hit of the game.
Â
Marist then took an early 8-0 lead at the top of the second inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, freshman pitcher
Melanie Benge singled to center field for her lone hit of the game. She later stole third base to close out the inning for Coppin State.

In the bottom of the third inning,
Danielle Smith tripled down the right field line for her second hit of the game.

Marist would go on to score five more runs in the top of the fourth inning, bringing its lead to, 13-0
Â
In the fifth inning, junior infielder
Taylor Haller led off with a single up the middle. Freshman outfielder
Alisha Esqueda followed with a single to right center. Freshman infielder
Hatika James earned an RBI as she grounded out to second base, bringing in Haller for the Lady Eagles first run of the game.

Esqueda would later score on a wild pitch.

Melanie Benge was issued the loss after going 2.1 innings allowing five hits and seven runs.
Â
Marist won the first game 14-2.
Â
In the later game, Coppin State scored six runs on five hits against Marist.

Megan Narvaez and senior outfielder
Alanna Williams each recorded a hit and two RBI's.

Shelby Mendoza and
Danielle Smith each logged a hit and a RBI.

Senior infielder
Kimberlynn Brown also added a hit for the Lady Eagles.

Melanie Benge pitched 5.0 innings and struck out four batters.
Â
Marist scored three runs in the second inning, one run in the third inning, three runs in the fifth inning, two runs in the sixth inning and three more runs in the seventh inning.

Marist closed the doubleheader with a 12-6 win in the second game.

Coppin State will returned to action Saturday, March 12 for a double header with Mount St. Mary's at the Softball Complex at Coppin State University.Â
