Lady Eagles Close Aggie Invitational with loss to NCAT

GREENSBORO - The Coppin State Lady Eagles softball team dropped its final game of the Aggie Invitational, 10-3 to the North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies Sunday February 14.
 
The Lady Eagles began the second inning with a score by Hatika James on a sacrifice bunt RBI by senior outfielder Michele Saunders. Coppin State's second run of the inning came on a Danielle Smith single down the left field line bringing home Kimberlynn Brown and putting the Lady Eagles ahead 2-0.
 
North Carolina A&T finshsd the seconf inning stong scoring four runs on four hits. .
The Lady Eagles trailed 4-2 at the end of the second inning.
 
In the top of the fifth inning two hits led to one run scored for Coppin State.
 
After senior infielder Danielle Smith singled to the shortstop, se stole second base. Alanna Williams then tripled to right center before scoring on a wild pitch that would end up being the final score for the Lady Eagles cutting the Lady Aggie lead down to 6-3.
 
Starting pitcher Melanie Benge went two innings striking out two Lady Aggies and allowing four hits. Freshman Megan Narvaez pitched three relief innings for Benge before fellow freshman Dakota Gartell finished the game for the Lady Eagles.
 
Danielle Smith's two hits, one RBI, and a stolen base led the Lady Eagles offense. Alanna Williams and Kimberlynn Brown both added a hit and scored a run for Coppin State.
 
Coppin State next game will be it's home opener against Fairleigh Dickson on Saturday March 5. This will be a doubleheader with the first game starting at 12:00 pm at the Softball Complex. ?
