BALTIMORE – Christian Kessee and
Joshua Treadwell combined for 53 points as the Eagles recorded their largest win margin of the season in a 90-66 blowout win at home over Howard on Saturday, February 13
th.
Coppin State improves to 6-18 overall and 4-7 in MEAC play while Howard drops to 10-15, 4-6 in the MEAC. The Eagles also avenge a 72-63 road loss to the Bison on January 9
th.
Junior guard
Christian Kessee scored 18 of his 27 points in the first half by knocking down 4-of-5 attempts from three point range and 7-of-9 shots from the field.
Joshua Treadwell added 11 first half points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. Coppin State made six total three pointers in the first 20 minutes of action leading the entire way while shooting 50% (17-34) from the field.
Howard converted on 11-of-17 free throw attempts but struggled from the field shooting 24% (8-33) early on. The Bison trailed the Eagles 42-29 at the half.
In the second half of play
Joshua Treadwell continued his hot shooting going a perfect 5-for-5 from the field scoring 15 points. Treadwell set a new career-high with 27 points against Howard and also dished out a career-best five assists. The Eagles offense matched their shooting percentage from the field in the first half and finally got some production from the charity stripe with 10-of-14 attempts.
Trevon Seymore made 4-of-5 second half free throws scoring 12 points. Treadwell made all three of his attempts as he recorded 15 second half points. Howard cut the Coppin State lead to nine (64-55) with 7:23 left to play, but the Eagles soared late and built their advantage back up to 26 with under a minute to go. Nine Eagles scored a point in their fourth home victory of the season downing Howard, 90-66.
Four Eagles finished in double figures paced by
Christian Kessee and
Joshua Treadwell. Kessee tied a career-high with 27 points, seven rebounds, and a pair of assists. He was a marksman from downtown hitting 5-of-6 attempts.
Joshua Treadwell set a new career-high with 26 points and five assists. Treadwell made 10-of-13 shots from the field and grabbed seven rebounds.
Trevon Seymore finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Terry Harris Jr. notched his seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Howard's James Daniel III scored a game-high 28 points including 17-of-19 made free throws.
The Eagles return to action on Monday, February 15
th against Delaware State in the PEC Arena at 7:30 p.m.
