Eagles Host Stephen F. Austin in Season Opener

Coppin State (0-4) will host Stephen F. Austin (2-2) in their season home opener on Friday, Nov. 25 at 3 p.m. This will be the first ever meeting between the Lumberjacks and the Eagles.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Senior guards Keena Samuels finished with a season-best 18 points in a 69-39 loss to No. 21/25 West Virginia last Saturday (11/19/16). Samuels' 18 points was the most by an Eagle this season. She was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, grabbed seven rebounds, made six steals and had two assists. Sophomore Alexis Taylor led the bench scoring with six points and three rebounds. Graduate Tiara Goode recorded a season-high seven rebounds and red-shirt junior Genesis Lucas scored five points and had five rebounds. West Virginia made 40% (24-of-60) of their shots from the field and made 16-of-21 free-throws. Their defense forced 23 CSU turnovers and held them to 1-for-11 shooting from three-point range. Coppin State grabbed a season-high 44 rebounds while converting on 10-of-16 free-throws against the Mountaineers.
 
EAGLES RANKING IN THE MEAC
Four Eagles are ranked after four regular season games amongst the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) leaders. Senior guard Keena Samuels ranks tied for eighth in both free-throw percentage (.750) and steals (2.8 spg) while sitting tenth in scoring (13.3 ppg). Red-shirt junior guard Genesis Lucas is tied for eighth in steals with fellow teammate Samuels (28 spg), ninth in minutes played (33.2), 12th in assists (2.8 apg), and 13th in defensive rebounds (4.3 pg). Junior center Oluwaseun Adeniji is tied for 13th in blocked shots (1.0 bpg) and freshman center Chance Graham ranks fifth in offensive rebounds (4.0) and tied for sixth in total rebounds (7.8 rpg).
 
ABOUT THE LUMBERJACKS
Stephen F. Austin (2-2) last played on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at George Mason and won by a close margin (77-76). Four are averaging in double figure scoring led by Brentney Branch (13.5 ppg). Stevi Parker (12.5 ppg), Taylor Ross (11.8 ppg) and Taylor Jackson (10.3 ppg).

Coppin State heads to Mount St. Mary's in nearby Emmitsburg, MD on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m. The all-time series is tied at 1-1 with the Eagles taking last season's game (66-55) at home on Nov. 29, 2015.
