Froberg Shines in Eagles Volleyball Sweep of Delaware State

DOVER, Del. – Junior Guro Froberg posted a career-best .409 attack percentage while tying a season-best with 12 kills in the Eagles first victory of the season over Delaware State University in straight-sets on Friday, Oct. 7 in Memorial Hall.

The Eagles recorded a season-high attack percentage (.250) while setting their highest kill (36) and assist (33) total in a three set match.

Coppin State ended a seventeen match losing streak with a strong opening set against the Hornets. The Eagles won their first opening set victory (25-19) paced by the duo of Guro Froberg and freshman Jasmine Lougheed. Lougheed had four kills in set one and Froberg added three kills with three digs. CSU's offense came out with 15 kills compared to only seven by DSU setting the tone early. Freshman Dominique Madarang had ten assists with three digs and junior Glorines Rosado served up an ace in the set.

In the next set, the Hornets reclaimed the momentum and led for most of the way. Delaware State connected on 11 kills to Coppin State's nine but the Eagles were more efficient with only five attack errors to eight. Froberg ignited the comeback with five kills in the second set alone. Rosado, Lougheed and Madarang all had aces and the Eagles battled and came away with a 25-20 win.

On the brink of their first win of the 2016 season the Eagles offense produced a .321 set attack percentage on 12 team kills cruising to a 25-17 victory in set three. Madarang added on ten more assists while Froberg was a force both offensively and defensively with four kills and four digs. Junior Valiyah Barnes defended the net with three blocks in the set as the Hornet offense struggled with only nine kills and six errors.

Guro Froberg was the only Eagle to reach double figure kills finishing with 12 tying a season-best. This was her fifth time with 10+ kills and she recorded her best attack percentage of the season at .409. Jasmine Lougheed had a season-high three blocks including two solos while registering a service ace. Lougheed finished with .533 attack percentage with nine kills. Dominique Madarang had a season-high two blocks and finished with a game-high 26 assists. Glorines Rosado tied a season-high with three aces while adding five assists to go along with five digs.

Up next for the Eagles is a road trip to Maryland Eastern Shore on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. Coppin State trails the all-time series against the Hawks 50-15 and dropped both meetings last year. The Eagles last victory against UMES was back in the 2014 season.
