Guro Froberg recorded a match-high 22 kills and junior
Valiyah Barnes added ten kills against the Hornets.
The Eagles dropped the first (25-22) and second sets (25-21) to the Hornets before clinching their first set of the night in the third. The duo of Froberg and Barnes sparked the comeback with four kills each in the third. Coppin State played under control hammering out 13 kills (.440 attack %) with only two errors. Delaware State struggled with only eight kills (.077 attack %) and six errors.
In the next set, Froberg led with nine more kills, but costly errors doomed the Eagles. The Hornets trailed 21-19 after CSU's final kill of the set by freshman
Jasmine Lougheed. DSU went on to tie the match with a pair of kills and then led (23-21) after a CSU attack error. After an Eagles timeout, DSU increased their lead to 24-21 on a kill and then sealed their first victory of the season on another attack error by the Eagles.
Coppin State falls to 2-22 with a 2-8 MEAC record while Delaware State moves to 1-24 and 1-8 in MEAC play. The Eagles finished with 51 kills (.154 attack %) to Delaware State's 45. 28 total team errors by CSU damaged their offensive production.
Guro Froberg set a season-high with 22 kills including a .541 attack percentage. She added on seven digs finishing with 22.0 points.
Valiyah Barnes also set a season-best with ten kills on her .273 attack percentage.
Jasmine Lougheed contributed seven kills, two digs, two aces and a solo block.
Coppin State had six service aces led by freshman
Dominique Madarang's three. Madarang also served up 41 assists notching her fourth 40+ assist match of the season. Defensively, a pair reached double figure digs paced by freshman
Angel Jamerson. Jamerson set a new season-high with 15 digs and junior
Glorines Rosado chipped in with 13 digs.
The Eagles return to action on Sunday, October 30th at 3 p.m. against the Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore at home inside the PEC Auxiliary Gym.
