BALTIMORE, Md. – Freshman setter
Dominique Madarang recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 16 assists and 13 digs against the Bison in a 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-23) loss to Howard University on Sunday, October 16
th in the Physical Education Complex Auxiliary Gym.
The Eagles fall to 1-20 overall and 1-6 in MEAC play while the Bison move to 17-5 overall and 6-0 in the MEAC. Coppin State tallied nine kills in set one, five in set two and 13 in set three for a .039 attack percentage. Junior
Guro Froberg led the attack with nine kills along with freshman
Jasmine Lougheed's seven.
Dominique Madarang also had four kills and an assisted block in addition to her double-double of 16 assists and 13 digs.
In set one, Froberg came out with four kills and junior
Glorines Rosado finished with four digs to carry the defense. Howard muscled their way to a 25-13 win coming up with 12 kills and only four errors. The Bison dominated set two (25-13) holding the Eagles to only five kills. Howard's defense collected 17 digs in that set and pounded out 12 kills. Froberg again led the CSU attack with three kills.
Facing their 14
th three-set defeat of the season, Coppin State had their best outing of the match in set three. The Eagles matched the Bison attack with 38 attempts and scored on 13 kills for a .132 attack percentage. Lougheed and Madarang paced the offense with four kills each. Madarang was a force with eight digs and seven assists as the Eagles and Bison had six tied scores and five lead changes in the set.
Coppin State trailed 24-20 in the third before rallying to cut the deficit to one point. Froberg's kill made the set 24-21 in favor of HU and then an HU attack error trimmed it to only two points (24-22). Then, Madarang connected on the 23
rd point on an assist by Lougheed forcing the Bison to regroup by calling a timeout. Shortly after the break, Howard swept the match on an attack error by CSU winning by a close margin 25-23.
The Eagles return to action on Friday, October 21
st with a road trip to Norfolk State University at 6 p.m. Earlier this season, the Eagles and Spartans met on Sept. 23
rd where Norfolk State came away with a 3-2 win in Baltimore.
