Lady Eagles Ready to Battle for Baltimore against Morgan State

BALTIMORE- After defeating the Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks 61-54 Saturday night January 30, the Coppin State Lady Eagles (7-11, 4-2) will square off against crosstown rival Morgan State on Monday February 1 in the Hill Field House. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE EAGLES
The Lady Eagles are 7-11 and are coming off their third home MEAC win of the season. Coppin State is 4-2 in MEAC play and is 2-0 in its last two games.
 
Six Lady Eagles are averaging at least 8.0 points per game. Four of those players are in the top 30 in scoring in the MEAC. Janelle Lane is putting in a team-leading 11.2 points per game. She has started all 18 games for Coppin State.

Senior Omaah Tayong had a career night in the Lady Eagles 61-54 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore Saturday afternoon January 30 in PEC Arena.
 
Tayong dominated the Lady Hawks for a career best 20 points. She added a season high 14 rebounds on 9-of-15 shooting from the field in 32 minutes. She scored 10 of the Lady Eagles first 12 points of the fourth quarter.
 
Tayong was also a force on the defensive end racking up a career high seven blocks.
 
 Janelle Lane finished with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.
 
The Lady Eagles recorded a season best eight blocks on Saturday.
 
Keena Samuels tallied 10 points and one assists in 32 minutes. She went 4-of-6 from the foul line. Samuels has scored in double figures in the Lady Eagles last seven contests.
 
Jordan Swails fell just shy of a double double scoring nine points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She added three assists and two steals for Coppin State.
 
Genesis Lucas tied a career high with six steals. She led Coppin State with four assists. Lucas scored eight points and added one rebound in a team high 40 minutes of game action. 
 
MONDAY'S GAME
Coppin State leads the all-time series over Morgan State, 37-31. The Lady Bears won both regular season meetings last year. Coppin State defeated Morgan State, 71-56 in the first round of the MEAC Championships last postseason.
 
ABOUT MORGAN STATE
The Lady Bears (7-12, 5-2 MEAC) winners of four of their last five games and are coming off a 78-66 victory over Howard on Saturday at Hill Field House.
 
Morgan State, which hadn't played in 12 days was led by Zuri White, who tallied a game- and career-high 22 points. 
 
Lexus Spears added 14 points and Braennan Farrar also tallied a double-double, tying her career-high of 12 assists and scoring 11 points. Danielle Robinson came off the bench to score 12 points.
 
WHATS DOWN THE ROAD
Coppin State will begin a three game MEAC road trip beginning Monday, February 2 against cross-town rival Morgan State. The Lady Eagles will then head south to face South Carolina State (Sat. Feb 6) and Savannah State (Mon. Feb 8). The Lady Eagles makeup game against North Carolina Central has been moved to Thursday, February 18.
 
COPPIN STATE AT HOME
The Lady Eagles are 4-2 at PEC Arena during the 2015-16 season. Last year Coppin State was 4-8 in the Physical Education Complex. Their last home win was January 30 against UMES. The Lady Eagles are 3-0 in MEAC home games this season.

Keena Samuels torched North Carolina A&T for a career high 25 points as the Coppin State Lady Eagles cruised past the Aggies for a 65-59 victory Wednesday evening January, 27 in PEC Arena.
 
After the Aggies took a 50-49 lead with five minutes to play in the second half, a steal and layup by Samuels sparked a 7-0 Lady Eagles run. North Carolina A&T never recaptured the lead.
 
Samuels shot 8-of-15 from the field and knocked down nine of her 12 foul shots. She added two assists and three steals while playing all 40 minutes of the game. Samuels sunk five of her final six free throws to help seal the game for Coppin State.
 
MOST REBOUNDS IN A GAME: Jordan Swails, 16 rebounds, vs. Mt. St. Mary's (Nov. 29, 2015)
Senior Jordan Swails notched her fourth career double double with 11 points and a career best 16 rebounds. Swails was an equal opportunity board snatcher, finishing with eight offensive and defensive rebounds.
 
She added two assists, two steals and two blocks.
 
MOST ASSISTS IN A GAME: Genesis Lucas, 7 assists, at Virginia (Dec. 28, 2015)
Genesis Lucas scored four points and a season high seven assists in the setback loss. She also added a steal in 35 minutes of game action.
 
Her seven assists was one shy of her career high. Lucas has now led the Lady Eagles in assists 16 times in her career.
