Eagles Aiming For Fourth Straight Win Saturday Versus Maryland Eastern Shore

BALTIMORE – The Eagles have won their last three games and will look to win a fourth on Saturday against Maryland Eastern Shore (5-16, 2-4). Game time is 4:00 p.m. Last Wednesday, Coppin State (5-14, 3-3) took down North Carolina A&T, 73-68 at home.

ABOUT THE EAGLES
  • The Eagles are on a three game win streak and are currently 5-14 this season, including a 3-3 mark in MEAC games with 10 regular-season games remaining...two of their last three wins have come on the road against MEAC teams and the other two wins came against Division II opponents Goldey-Beacom and Chestnut Hill.
  • Coppin State has gone 3-1 in the month of January after a tough December when they went 0-10. In MEAC play junior guard Keith Shivers leads the team in scoring with 12.5 ppg and 36.0 minutes averaged.   • Due to weather storm Jonas Coppin State versus North Carolina Central was rescheduled from Monday, January 25th to Thursday, February 18th. Their game against North Carolina A&T was moved from Saturday to Wednesday.  
  • Amongst the MEAC, Coppin State as a team is tied for the conference leader in offensive rebounding average (14.4) and third in turnover margin (+1.42). Individually, Terry Harris Jr. and Christian Kessee are both tied for 18th place in scoring (12.3). Kessee is ranked eighth in both free throw percentage, 3-point field goal made per game (2.2), while ranking ninth in 3-point field goal percentage (35.0).

MOST RECENTLY
  • Eagles rolled to their third consecutive MEAC victory with a 73-68 home win against North Carolina A&T on Wednesday night.
  • Coppin State scored 15 points off 12 North Carolina A&T turnovers. The Eagles won the battle of the boards, 44-42 helping them outscore the Aggies in second chance points, 16-12.
  • Four Eagles scored in double figures led by 22 points and seven rebound effort by Terry Harris Jr. He finished 7-of-14 from the floor and connected on six of his eight free throws, including the final two foul shots of the game. He added two blocks and two three point baskets in 38 minutes of action.
  • Keith Shivers tallied 16 points and three rebounds on while Christian Kessee added 15 points and a season high eight rebounds. James Sylvester finished with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists. Sylvester converted a team best eight free throws. All eight of his made free throws came in the second half, including four in the final 2:34 of the game.

EAGLES TO FACE HAWKS
  • Coppin State faces Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday afternoon … the Eagles lead the all-time series against Maryland Eastern Shore by a 58-18 margin … The last four meetings were on the road for the Eagles with the Hawks winning the last meeting, 92-82, on January 31, 2015. The last time both teams squared off in the PEC Arena, Coppin State won 81-78 on February 13, 2012.

COMING UP NEXT
  • The Eagles begin the month of February with three straight road MEAC games. Up first is a rivalry game against Morgan State on Monday, February 1st at 7:30 p.m. Coppin State will head down south for a pair of games against South Carolina State (Feb. 6) and Savannah State (Feb. 8) before returning home on February 13th against Howard.

COPPIN AT HOME
Coppin State holds a 3-4 record when playing at home in the PEC Arena this season. The Eagles recently defeated North Carolina A&T on Wednesday but previously beat a pair of D-2 opponents in  Goldey-Beacom and Chestnut Hill back in November. The losses came against Towson, Hampton, Norfolk State, and Eastern Michigan. In 2014-15, the Eagles went 4-7 at home with a solid start but ended with four consecutive losses ending the regular season.
 

AGAINST THE STATE OF MARYLAND
The Eagles are 0-1 against teams from the state of Maryland this season. Towson defeated Coppin State in overtime, 81-77. Up next is a rival matchup against Morgan State.
